Of course you can control it...you could get real "non-attached" and stop breathing entirely. I guess you're only interested in morality when it's easy, though.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

People don't drink for the taste. When they drink alone it is in order to seek release from tension and when they drink socially, it is usually to conform. Even a small amount of alcohol distorts consciousness and disrupts self-awareness. Taken in large quantities, its effect can be devastating.
Even God likes wine.

Yeah and? It's my body. I live in it. None of anyone's business if I want to kill everything inside of it. Plus, you don't have to hurt yourself drinking or using. In moderate amounts it can be beneficial to your health.
Curious question. I hurt myself all the time, without consuming anything or killing any cells in my body, is that a sin?

Wow, do people get bad karma points for having a couple of drinks in their own home and then not hurting anyone or taking on important tasks requiring crystal clarity?
Parts of Buddhism also teach homosexuality is wrong. Where do you stand on that mia?

This view doesn't apply to you sir, we believe one is fortunate to be given a human life rather than an animal or other forms of life. One has to bring good karma from the past lives to live a life as a human. Through a human life only one can attain Nirvana. That is why hurting what you have got to attain Nirvana is considered a sin. What sort of life you will get in the next life is more dependent in the time one dies.
Example ; be a drunkard most of the time through out ones life, chances are you remembering "that part" at the time of death. If one lives a life with less drinking and accumulates good karma things will be different at the time of death. I believe one cannot control the thoughts at death.

I wonder how you explain completely shitty people who were wonderful in their last life to become human, but are now given a personality which is the polar opposite. They are total scum, and their only purpose seems to be enacting the results of bad karma on everyone else.
Or humans who are born with some horrific disease... they were good enough to be a human, but still somehow deserve to live a miserable life. Couldn't they have been a happy deer instead?

As long as sex is consensual between two people and no one is hurt, I don't think the vast majority of Buddhists care. There is no Buddhist "ten commandments" with "thou shalt nots" in it. Buddhism is about what you should do, not what you shouldn't do. I think one will find great acceptance among Buddhists regardless of your sexual orientation.

In regard to sin and forgiveness Christian teachings, I was under the impression that one had to seek forgiveness or attempt reparation (where possible) of a person wronged prior to asking God's forgiveness; or even prior to approaching God.
If one were to murder someone, then reparation and forgiveness is not possible because the person wronged can not be reconciled with.
Which brings to my mind that Jesus offering forgiveness to others was such that he could be forgiven before God. (which also hints at his imperfection that is not mentioned in scripture) The fact that this was turned into a general forgiveness for mankind's wrongdoings to each other just by asking and regretting philosophy is a most puzzling development to me.
I find that, if I think to much on these things, they become too convoluted and begin to fall apart.
