Sin & Forgiveness
RE: Sin & Forgiveness
Yeah, religious ideas are always really stupid, even if they contain some useful elements. They kind of have to be, or else they would just be good advice.

Here's a new Darkmatter2525 video on the ridiculous nature of religious "morality". It's a zinger!

They are total scum, and their only purpose seems to be enacting the results of bad karma on everyone else.

Or humans who are born with some horrific disease... they were good enough to be a human, but still somehow deserve to live a miserable life. Couldn't they have been a happy deer instead?

Sir, it would be "past lives" instead of "past life" . Through out Sansara one accumulates good and bad karma. If a person is wonderful in the past life and scum in the present that might be the karma in the lives before the last.

Regarding the deer, one cannot decide that. No one can. It depends on the karma one has brought through out their lifetime. The last thought at the time of death and the karma one has accumulated during your lifetime is a deciding factor of the next birth.

EDIT: If a person is a drunkard most of her life and be a botheration to the people around. In the next life she may be born as a deformed person. However if that person was living a life helping others and doing good karma but still a drunkard , in the next life that person may be deformed but with comforts. People to look after with proper care etc.

Thanks for the answer Smile

That makes some kind of sense, if I assume any of it makes sense.

What about everyone's very first life, was that random what we got to be? We had no karma to catch up with us.

This is a very difficult question to answer. I'll try to take my best shot at it. According to the teachings of the Buddha and what I feel is something like this. Cells began in the ocean and cells divided in to two and so that process went on. During this evolution process plants on land evolved. Then an organism evolved with a bond for craving therefore a consciousness. Craving makes it do good and bad. That is the origin of karma.

In the teachings of the Buddhist doctrine it tells us to live the present life riotously. To look back as to why life began is a waste of time because there is no time for that explanation in simple words. 2500 years ago the Buddha's teachings reveal that the universe expands and collapses in an infinite number of times.

"Suppose someone was hit by a poisoned arrow and his friends and relatives found a doctor able to remove the arrow. If this man were to say, 'I will not have this arrow taken out until I know whether the person who had shot it was a priest, a prince or a merchant, his name and his family. I will not have it taken out until I know what kind of bow was used and whether the arrowhead was an ordinary one or an iron one.' That person would die before all these things are ever known to him."

OK, thanks Smile

As you're probably aware, to me that just sounds like the scientific explanation being narrated by a desire to assign agency to everything. I also highly doubt the teachings of Buddha were as specific on abiogenesis and evolution, although I'm at least glad to see you adapting it rather than rejecting it.

Your correct sir. Buddha s teachings were more towards how to get out of this world of suffering. He has not preached how it all began in that level as I described. Buddhism doesn't contradict with evolution.

"There comes a time, when, sooner or later after a long period this world contracts. At a time of contraction, beings are mostly born in the Abhasara Brahma world. And there they dwell, mind-made, feeding on delight, self luminous, moving through the air, glorious—and they stay like that for a very long time. But sooner or later, after a very long period, this world begins to expand again. At a time of expansion, the beings from the Abhasara Brahma world, having passed away from there, are mostly reborn in this world. Here they dwell, mind-made, feeding on delight, self-luminous, moving through the air, glorious— and they stay like that for a very long time.

At that period, there was just one mass of water, and all was darkness, blinding darkness. Neither moon nor sun appeared, no constellations or stars appeared, night and day were not yet distinguished, nor months and fortnights, nor years and seasons; there was no male and female, beings being reckoned just as beings. And sooner or later, after a very long period of time, savory earth spread itself over the waters where those beings were. It looked just like the skin that forms itself over hot milk as it cools. It was endowed with color, smell, and taste. It was the color of fine ghee or butter and it was very sweet, like pure wild honey"

That was his teachings 2500 years ago.

How can that be justified with ones conscious. Let alone a Devine entity. Say for instance someone commits a murder for any reason. How can anything forgive you for that under any circumstances. People will always take the easy way out or do the wrong thing just because there is the comfort of forgiveness. I am a practicing Buddhist and I believe in Karma. There should not be any escape from that. Most of my friends who believe in God has told me they have been forgiven for the sins that they have done. I find that ridiculous and how gullible people can be. Some sins go to the very extreme. Not things like lying, stealing etc.

What are your thoughts.
The short simple answer is Jesus' physical Death on the cross only represents the Spiritual costs God paid for each and every sin. His death was to give us some idea of the torment/hurt we cause God in our sin. So that one, if we love we will seek to not to cause God the pain of willful sin/evil. Two to respect and acknowledge what was done in the way God wants us to out of love and respect for what was done

So God feels pain and hurt when people wear clothes of mixed fabrics?

How much does it hurt god when I say the Holy Spirit is my sex bitch? Is it like a sprained ankle? Or does he start choking?

Does he get all red in the face?

The idea that a "God" as often described could be hurt is ludicrous. At best it is manufactured, pretend hurt to further manipulate followers. Although why it would need such underhand tactics while possessing all the power ever is confusing.
