That's one of the points about being an atheist. People always seem to think it's just like another religion, but that's NOT TRUE! We don't have any "rules" about what to do, what not do, what to eat, where to go. We're FREE! And personally, I feel that religious people could be free to do whatever they wish, also, if not for their misguided belief about going to hell, or whatever their place of eternal damnation is.
Trudging through endless religion one step at a time.

Yes,we can call out Christ (although not necessarily Jesus) for the bullshit that it is, and can't pretend the christain god exists in any worthwhile sense of the word.
So you're allowed to do pretty much anything you like. Doesn't that lead to chaos?

No, we've launched no crusades, conducted no holy wars, instituted no inquisitions, propounded no moronic prophecies, filled no children's minds with barbarousbeduin creation myths at the expense of scientific knowledge. All in all I think we've behave behaved better in Our freedom than theists have in their supestition addled servitude.
So you're letting yourselves be ruled purely by your own whims. Prisons are full of people who live that way.

There are no atheist rituals to observe, no atheist codes to follow, no rites of atheist passage, no atheist-specific ceremonies, nothing of that sort. It doesn't mean that we don't value human life. If anything, I can offer positive evidence that the opposite is true. Case and point: Every bad thing publicly said about gays, homosexuals, atheists, liberals, liberal elites, muslims, terrorists, people outside of United States juristiction (especially in communist states, like North Korea), Nazis, Abortion doctors, and so on is usually done by people of a particular religious faith (or republicans or both). I'm looking at YOU, Pat Robertson, Ben Stein, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reily, and ... pretty much everyone worth mentioning at Fox News. If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925 Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan (January 3, 2011 at 5:56 pm)barboft Wrote: So you're letting yourselves be ruled purely by your own whims. Prisons are full of people who live that way. Prisons tend to be filled up with theists. What does that tell you? There are no rules in atheism. We are free to think, feel and do as we please. Religion makes all the rules and yet it was religion that was to blame for the crusader wars, the inquisition, drowning women, burning non-believer and believers alike, ect ect. And yet you can't name one bad event caused by atheism. Ain't that interesting. ![]() Atheists are quite ethical like any good decent person would be. Well behaved when you compare it with religious wackos. Atheists didn't fly planes into buildings. Why? Because that's a sick thing to do. There are no rules in atheism.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan
Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity. Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist. You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.
No rules at all? How do you expect to lead good lives without at least some rules about your conduct?
