Being only a garden variety atheist I have no such out.  I'd have to live with myself.  So I pretty much stick to good old regular, same-old/same-old sex.  With the wife.  Only.

The Golden Rule would indicate that because I want to be forgiven when I have failings, I should be willing to forgive others. The Law of the Jungle would indicate that if I fuck someone over, I can and should expect them to try and fuck me back.


So was this the kindest thing to do? Probably not. Did she deserve to have it done to her anyway? Maybe. I certainly don't think it's an over-reaction. Fair trade would have been screwing another chick for revenge, and I would place this lower on the mean-ness scale than that.


There's also the fact of his wanting to have a video document of the break-up process, reasons for it's occurrence, and the state of her house when it happened, as well as a date of that document being made public record. Aside from embarrassing her publicly, he's legally protecting himself. I think I heard him say something about how she's volatile when angry/scorned. If we're really playing the "consider their possible circumstances" card, it sounds like they probably had more problems than just her cheating, and that one of those problems is that she's an insane bitch.


My first wife, incidentally, was an insane bitch, so I can certainly relate to that. During our separation she tried to get a restraining order against me even though I've never laid a hand on her or even threatened to (the judge summarily denied that attempt, thankfully), and I was careful to document all of our interactions intensively and make sure witnesses would be present if we were around each other or each other's property for fear of any other shit she might pull. You never know what a crazy person will do to fuck you over just because you broke their twisted little hearts.


Another thing this reminds me of is the end of my first relationship, brought about because she cheated on me with a friend of mine (she kissed him; we were children). Now, I didn't really go broadcasting it, but people knew we were dating, so when asked how she was or how we were doing, I would tell people we'd broken up, and when asked why, I would tell them why. After a few days of this, I get an angry phone call because I'm supposedly "spreading her business" around school and people are getting shitty with her and my ex-friend about what they'd done. I didn't set out to embarrass her, but I told the truth when asked honest question, and she happens to be embarrassed by the truth she created, which I was unwilling to hide on her behalf.


My point is that if he's telling the truth, then what she's really embarrassed about is her own actions and the fact that his choice method for legal protection incidentally means that lots of people know she's a cheater, and she should be embarrassed by that because it's disgusting. In 28 years I've never found cause to cheat on a romantic partner because no such cause can be justified.


What I do think is dumb on his part is pretending he was going to fly her somewhere. It would have been ample drama to simply fake a proposal and then drop the card. The Northern Lights thing was superfluous and didn't really add anything to the scenario. Obviously this commoner knows nothing of Theatre.


The antlers were a nice touch, though.

At one point he kind of jiggles it and says "That's what you get for cheating on me!" I was unsure of whether he meant the charade at the house, or if he'd also stolen her dildo so she couldn't even console herself once he'd gone. I like to think he did.
