RE: The Problem with Christians
Lol...how are gods not folklore and superstition?
How is the supernatural not superstition?

I'm just going to go find a brick wall to bang my head against now.

That would appear to make the whole atheist belief system somewhat tenuous. It would also mean that the declaration,  "God doesn't exist" cannot be made with any certainty.

It's more technical than that. It is one thing to observe something in nature and say that we don't understand how that works, but it is a different situation when something goes completely against the observable laws of nature.

Thats a big call. History is full of reports of supernatural activity. Are all these people liars or deluded? I've seen more than one person tell the future and nail it. What happened there?

Other than that being atheist is the absence of belief and not a belief, let alone a system. But I'm rather tired of explaining that to theists, who deal in nothing but belief. As your constant gap filling proves rather impressively.

It should have at least given you some hints that none of us feels the need to fill the unknown with some brainfart quantity.

Abaris, I'm confused. I've seen so many atheists declare with absolute certainty that the God of the Bible is a myth, a fable and total make-believe. Surely this qualifies as a belief.

Oh, forgive me, their arguments are logical to them and their perpetually damaging delusion.

Christians only create, as they did their imaginary friend since the beginning of time, apologetics because they know they are on the loosing end, and they think they can somehow cling to something meaningful if more idiots follow their brand of idiocy.

It's not hard to understand when you buy into this

Quote:Proverbs 3:5-6Living Bible (TLB)
4-5 If you want favor with both God and man, and a reputation for good judgment and common sense, then trust the Lord completely; don’t ever trust yourself. In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.

No, it is the predictable result of watching religitards try and fail to demonstrate that their fantasies are real.

If the actual law of nature, and not just our model, was that life could only come from life then...

Life would only come from life.

But no one has established that is actually the case. In fact, I believe science is very close to understanding exactly why this is false.

Quick question: Who cares? Jumping ahead, I don't care. If scientific theories are wrong, I don't care, except for curiosity as to what new theories would replace them. If there's "a god", I don't care. If the christian god is real, I don't care.

And no amount of trashing science will produce evidence for any sort of "god", whatever that is.
I don't wish to go round in circles and I understand that you have been through similar arguments more times than you'd like. So I appreciate your patience.

Let's say we all accept that at some point life came from non-life. Let's say we also agree that from the laws of physics and from natural phenomena, we cannot explain how this happened. Until such time as a rational explanation can be offered, tested and proved, it would be reasonable to label abiogenesis as a supernatural event (using the definition as supplied).

Minimalist, can you say with absolute certainty that there is no God?

I'm not sure that someone's poor representation of something qualifies as proof of anything.

The biblical god, for us, is on the same lines as Odin, Osiris or Zeus. I'm going out on a limb here, but I don't think, you would call these three anything other than myth. But the proof for there existence is just the same as for the biblical one - none. How about the logic for their existence? Again a blank, in lights of what we already know.

And that brings us back to the supernatural. It's a myth. There is no credible evidence for it's existence. And we are not in the habit of filling the unknown with myths. Again, bottom line, and I hope I'm not talking to a brick wall, the supernatural is myth, for absence of evidence, including god.
