I've written some in this thread go and read I'm not in the habit of repeating myself to people who want listen.

OT:

Want= to desire

Won't= will not

GC, you use the word "want" wrongly all the time. How on earth is it possible you can't understand the difference?

How can they make something that didn't exist before? something no one knew about before...

Think: Beethoven's 9th Symphony..... Mozart's Alla Turca... Picasso's Guernica... Gaudi's Barcelona Cathedral...

Could it be that you have engaged a part of your brain that they had been aware of their all lives?

It's for those anecdotal accounts, that, if I'm ever to accept any evidence for a god, it will never be a sole presentation to my person... if this being is to be as universal as the believers claim, then it should present itself to all, equally.... not just me.... never just me. I'm aware of how fallible my brain is.
For something this universal, only ALL will do. Not some, not most... ALL.
And don't get me started on "prophets".... -.-'

 I want get you started on anything if that's what you want, you've been presented with the truth of scriptures and it's your decision. I will say God has always intended for man to have a personal relationship with Him, it starts in Genesis and goes through the entire Bible. Not everyone will be presented the truth because they wouldn't accept it if God presented himself before them, they like you don't trust their own mind.

GC

Correction: I've been presented with scriptures. Yes, I have.
If their contents are true or not.... well.... that's another matter, isn't it?

Also.... what to say about other scriptures?
The Vedas?
The Qur'an?
Which are true? If any.... How to tell? What's the mechanism to ascertain the true scriptures? if any...

Also, how can you say anything about what "God has always intended"?? How would you know anything about that ever absent entity?
Oh... it starts in Genesis?... the same story as the unverified, unverifiable scriptures?

Please.... Dodgy
I know that the human mind is fallible, it is riddled with perception mistakes, interpretation mistakes, biases, memory flaws, imaginative states, dreams, desires, susceptions... hallucinations. Why should I accept the word of a few people on an unverifiable entity, knowing full well that they are likely being victims of their own brain failings?
Certainly, we can all fall prey to our brains, but for all to do equally so at the same time would require a massive coincidence. That coincidence could convince me that it was of divine origin... but, as things stand, with each "ruler" imposing his own version of the divine, I am much more inclined to think that they have no connection whatsoever to any divine, but rather to their own desires, faultily interpreting them as an external divine force.... like you (and many like you) are faultily interpreting your desires and wishes as a "personal relationship".
Of course, you don't think you're at fault... you're completely convinced of that relationship status...and that's why some people will tell you that "religion poisons the mind".
Still, I can't say that, for the most part, it's a harmful poison. I'd say it's harmful in that it presents you with a faulty view of the world... but it's not too relevant for life to go on...

I believe that Jesus of Nazareth existed and was born and raised in northern Galilee, where he became an apocalyptic preacher; his friends and followers encouraged him to bring his message south to Jerusalem.  He did just that, but he got arrested by the Romans and was crucified; his body was tossed into a nearby pit, and either buried or consumed by wild dogs.

I do not look upon my "beliefs" about Jesus as being a "choice" any more than I could "choose" to believe that the South won the Civil War.  Rather, it's the evidence that compels me, independent of my free will (if I truly have free will), to conclude that the Gospels are mostly legends, fables and myths and that Paul was an epileptic with delusions of grandeur who took the Jesus message, and from there, started a world religion.

TO: Jehanne, pocaracas and The Empress, those are all opinions not provable by any means and they do not address anything in the Bible. People have tried for thousands of years to disprove the Bible and all have failed. You all can't bring anything new to the attempt to disprove scriptures that hasn't preceded you by hundreds of years and Christianity continues to grow world wide. New churches are being built every year to grow the new group of Christians coming up yearly. No one has been able to stop or slow down this growth for nearly 2000 years. People from all walks of life have become Christians and still do, the poor the rich the middle class, common workers, doctors, lawyers, scientist and on and on I could go. Open your eyes and take a look at what's actually going on you all are in the smallest of minority. Try as you may, you won't change a thing.

Curious....I don't remember trying to disprove the bible...
I just presented a good reason not to accept it at face value.

But if thousands of people accept it... Maybe they're wrong. In my view, they're most likely wrong.
Most people who are not indoctrinated can see the lack of reason to accept the bible's contents as true... But sadly there are still too many people indoctrinating their young...training them to fill up all those seats they're building.
Incidentally, churches in Europe are losing adherents. And losing priests...

So was Galileo. If our species never questioned social norms our species never would have left the caves. And while atheists are the minority, we are most certainly a growing vocal minority and that wont change either. Being proud of an old book of myth is hardly a virtue. You are the one who needs to wake up. That was then, and it was understandable back then when humans didn't know any better, but we know better now.

That's what happens when you have indoctrination.  Look at how many scientists, doctors, rich people, poor people, etc... are Muslims.  Yeah, there's people from that sect too.  Jews as well.  Oh and Atheists.

Appeal to majority is nonsense.  The majority of the world once thought the earth was flat.  Mostly based on your stupid book, too.  Turns out they were wrong.
