Next you'll be trying to tell me that Christianity itself is a hoax or that the Pope is just some fraud in a costume and that it doesn't matter what he says, because his word holds no more inherent worth than anyone else's.

Get rid of the ridiculous beliefs and there might be hope for religion yet. Fables and allegory, that's the ticket. The poor fundy protestants will probably never find their way out except by disbelief. Fortunately this works too. I actually completed an online conflict resolution (CR) program at Abilene Christian University, and the idea of embracing one another regardless of one's cultural/traditional/philosophical (etc.) upbringing, embodied many of the peacemaking concepts, principles, and techniques taught by the CR faculty members. The CR faculty were nice, intelligent, analytical, and reflective people. They wanted students to reinforce their work with academic resources; they did not want students blindly quoting biblical verses to support their ideas. I absolutely cherish the time I spent at the residency session, as I learned how to mediate conflicts and realized that there is plenty of common ground between religious and non-religious concepts and principles. |
