Instead of spreading the wealth, maybe the better approach is to making everyone a shareholder. Not a universal income, but universal capital - a minimum asset portfolio for each individual wherewith the productivity gains of corporations create prosperity with dividends. Just a thought. Maybe unworkable, but my point is that the old solutions will not work for much longer.

This caught my attention, and I think it's a rather interesting proposal. I'm not asking for chapter and verse, Chad, but how do you see this working out in a rough sort of way? Does the government buy into a stock index fund at a certain value for each citizen up front, until they can take over the portfolio's management? Are employers to be responsible for doing so, rather than the government? And, if so, how would that work for the chronically unemployed?

And what about public goods that do not appear on the corporate balance sheets? Do you think an entire nation glued to quarterly reports and earnings projections would be more or less likely to hold corporations' feet to the fire when it comes to environmental and similar concerns? I don't ask that rhetorically or as a gotcha question. I'm curious to know if you think there is a point at which citizens' minimal financial wellness being so closely tied to the stock and bond markets might lead to a degradation of their sense of stewardship of and concern for public goods, or the reverse? Do you imagine this leading to more or less corporate regulation? Would sensible corporate regulation even be possible in a political climate in which all citizens stand to benefit by corporations continuing to take the view that short term gains trump long term investment or pro-active initiatives to curb pollution, etc.?

I'm curious to read your thoughts on this. As I said, I found the idea interesting, and I'm trying to envision how something like your proposal might work.

Well actually we do know lots about Hilary that's rather the point she is a known, she has been in politics for a loooonnnng time. Trump started this morning and by any normally standards uis making a complete hash of it. But for some reason the worse he does the more the americans like it.
Its strange, its like seeing people eat shit with every sign of enjoyment.

There's a semi-regular Tory MP character in adult comic Viz, called Baxter Basics. A few years ago, he found out that he could make more money by losing his seat at the upcoming elections and getting into the public-speaking circuit, than he ever could by being an MP. So he ran an extremely negative campaign - pissing up the war memorial, biting babies, insulting pensioners etc. He became the most hated politician, and only ended up winning by a landslide, with a record number of votes, simply because his opponent was Noel Edmonds.

I didn't realise it was a prophecy.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Reminds me of a tweet from Hillary's account the other day. They gave a link to an article with 100+ Trump quotes which they say would disqualify him in a "normal" election.

For some reason, people - largely correctly - note this; they see Trump rising in the polls; yet, they just can't reach the obvious conclusion that this isn't a normal election.

You'd really enjoy watching people line up for food at our state fairs, then.

Well I know enough that she's not on video, for example, saying this line "look at my little African american!"

Every politician has their issues. I'll admit. But trump has said enough things in public to cause a lot of embarrassment to himself and his party.

I guess the bottom line for me is that he just doesn't have the experience and the knowledge that satisfies my mind enough to agree with the shit he says he wants to implement if he becomes the potus.

She's on video making a joke about Ghandi running a gas station. She's on video in a staged joke about CP (colored people) time - she didn't have the line herself, but it's obvious she was in on it. She's on record saying that "super predators" (code for young black men) need to be "brought to heel," like a dog.

Correct.  It is not a normal election.  It is one in which a brash and obviously unqualified clown pisses on himself in public every day just to test how deeply depressed and apathetic the american electorate has become.
