If liberals are the cornerstone of anti-racism and seeing how they are reacting to this incident, essentially trivializing it, Republicans are probably set for their next election.
It's not racism it's just using the word nigger in a joke. There's no implication that the black race are inferior in the joke.
If Donald Trump had made the joke the outraged people would be defending and the defending people would be outraged. It's like a sports game in that way.
And as others have said. The comment was aimed at himself. Republicans are so starved for situations that they can claim to be taking the moral high ground that they'll use any out of context opportunity. I'm sure they thought Ted Nugent was "just being Ted" when he made his Obama comments in 2012.

Usually, I don't take the the self-censorship position, but in this case I do. In America, the legacy of slavery and racial segregation makes it a special case. Attaining those freedoms was so hard fought and their prior affect so socially devastating that constant vigilance is necessary.
Special case? Some folks privileged to use that word when most of the world isn't allowed? Sorry, that just don't work for me.

Ok well let me say I'm skeptical that if Donald Trump had ever said "I don't work in the fields, I'm a house nigger." Or if he said something like that directed at himself, if he said "Wow I'm such a nigger" I don't think Tizher UK would make a comment in his defense that would get kudos from hammy and JamieB.
I just don't see that happening.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

I think the reasons highlighted above are sufficient. Pick up a history book. "Nigger," in most contexts, is a massively charged word with a special history.
Some communities co-opt words for their own use. Not sure it's too much en vogue now, but when I was in San Diego, I had a group of gay friends that would call each other "fag" or "faggot." Amongst themselves, it was alright, but if someone they didn't know called them a "faggot" it meant something different.
Yes, it is a double standard. Sometimes 400 years of slavery earns you a double standard.

I expected at the very least ,"It was a joke but a really bad one. He did use a racist slur which although was for a shock effect in his joke did hurt a number of black Americans which is completely understandable given the history of slavery in our country. He could apologize and explain what he said was not meant to be offensive but rather a terrible joke but it's totally up to him. I do understand and empathize with any black American's that are hurt by his use of this offensive slur though, they have every right to be upset about it."
..but nooooo, we gots to double down on it..
"It's just a joke bro", "It's just a word bro", "Lolz retardz".... Very nice.

Yes, it is a double standard. Sometimes 400 years of slavery earns you a double standard. Europeans enslaved each other for far longer than that. It's just specialcaseism.

Yes, it is a double standard. Sometimes 400 years of slavery earns you a double standard. Europeans enslaved each other for far longer than that. It's just specialcaseism. You are arguing a point that no one is disputing. Yes it is a special case.
Now, are you then making a point that there aren't or shouldn't be special cases? You'll need to support this.
