I'd have to chime in for Jimmy Carter as well, given he was responsible for the inception of Habitat for Humanity and to this day, still volunteers for the cause by helping to build homes. He's over 90 years old. This country will suffer a great loss when he passes away.

The thing is we only tend to know who is a Christian or who is an Atheist when they are actively involved in promoting their positions. Most of either group tend IMHO to be rather arrogant or stepped too far from their field of expertise. I'm not interested in much in spending any time at all with either William Lane Craig or Richard Dawkins. Both seem like very disagreeable people; although I only know them from their public personas. Even someone I deeply respect like David Bentley Hart seems like a pretty dry personality. Maybe if I liquored him up.

I have to agree with Neo on that one; can't say I know that many people IRL for their theism or atheism. Here it's different because here it's the point of contention... so it's all very visible... but IRL, at least for me, it hardly ever comes up. Who would I hug?... my parents of course, both Christians... long time friends of the family, also Christians... but I can't think of any public/famous figures, past or present, that I'd either know or would stand out because they were theists. Likewise for atheists... about the only two that come to mind are Richard Dawkins and Ricky Gervais. But can't say I have any 'fandom' about any figure on account of their atheism or theism; it's a moot point really, because religion or lack of doesn't make the person, it's just an aspect of the person. Anyway, regardless of whatever you think of me Neo, I'd give you a hug if you wanted one, or at least bump glasses with you if that was preferable Wink

Not familiar with the friendly platonic hug,  I take it?

Fuck platonic. It's the full Archimedes screw or nothing.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

My definition of "hug" sometimes involves a speeding bus.

I'm assuming you're referring to the "other" definition?

What about a Christian side hug?
