You pretend to lack empathy.  Tongue

Big difference.

I don't lack compassion. But I do lack empathy.

Since when have I EVER seen someone else's point of view or been able to make sense of anyone who disagrees with me? Or been able to feel what they feel? Never that's when, lol.

That's not a lack of empathy. Online points of view are naturally not akin to real life interactions.

In real life, I am certain you have empathized. I very much doubt, after all, that you're completely non-empathetic, for that would mean you could hurt someone physically without acknowledging how wrong it is.

I'm not talking about specifically online points of view.

Nah I've never been able to empathize with people in RL. Why do you think I never have any RL friends. What makes you think you know how empathetic I am? Lol. Remember, don't confuse acting compassionate and nice with actually feeling what other people feel. I struggle to even feel what myself feels, lol. But we're getting off topic.

Or perhaps we're not Tongue

Those who are truly non-empathetic have propensity toward killing; i.e., they are serial killers.

Are you trying to inform us that you are a serial killer?

I honestly believe you have created for yourself this fantasy where you think you are a certain way when you aren't that way at all.

Hey...hey, some killers a deeply empathetic souls.  Wink
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Kind of. It's complicated. Though it is true to an extent. However, Hammy is claiming to be non-empathetic.

No. Like I said you are confusing compassion with empathy. I have compassion. Empathy is the ability to imagine yourself in the shoes of another person (I struggle to even imagine at all) or feel what another person feels (I struggle to even feel what I feel).

Compassion is caring about people and having a conscience. I have that.

Psychopaths have no conscience and plenty of them are serial killers but even most psychopaths aren't serial killers.

I honestly believe you don't know me at all because you honestly don't.

You don't seem to understand what empathy is.

Empathy is a gateway to compassion. You are talking out of your ass.

I think Hams just super hard on himself.  He sits there thinking "I can;t imagine myself as that person and understand why they would do that" failing to realize that he is imagining himself as that person -exactly-.

They don;t know why they did what they did, either.  Wink

That's not the same as them being the same thing. When you say that people with no empathy are serial killers you are talking out of your ass. Many people without empathy are very decent people and even absolute psychopaths—who aren't decent people at all, and have no conscience at all—aren't all serial killers. In fact most of them aren't.

The only one talking out of your ass here is you. For starters, you don't even know me, so it's not your place to insist I have empathy. I don't know what kind of empathy you think I have. There are at least three different kinds of empathy.

Yes empathy helps people be compassionate because it helps to know how another person feels when you care about how they feel. But it isn't necessary. I have no idea what anyone feels besides myself and I often don't even know how I feel. Which is one of the reasons it's so hard to feel how others feel. Because to imagine how it feels for others I have to project my own emotions onto others (that's how empathy works. Mirror neurons, vicariousness and all that jazz).

I believe it's objectively bad when people suffer. I don't have to feel what other people feel (and technically no one does. They just imagine what they think the other person is feeling. We're not telepathic. We only even actually feel our own feelings. That's why they're called their own feelings. I can't imagine how other people feel though. I just know that things hurt for people or feel good for people like they do me. Although only on a physical level, most of the time, as most of the time I struggle to understand emotions at all).

Again, you don't know me, and yet you pretend to know me. And empathy being a gateway to compassion is one statement but to say that they are the same thing is another. And to say that people without empathy are serial killers is absolutely absurd. Only one here talking out of your ass here is you.

But I have to remind myself how illogical you are and that it's a waste of time trying to explain stuff to a dimwit.

Paul Bloom is someone who is very much not a psychopath or a serial killer but has written a highly successful book on how empathy makes you immoral and is very much not compassionate.

So suck it. I know what I'm talking about.
