But really, aren't we all sick and tired of theists reading anything they want from the bible and just say: No, you don't read that bad bit literally, silly!
Oh, how fucking convenient is that!
Theists, here's a pro tip.
Science books don't need the readers imagination in order to convey information. Same goes for all non fiction literature.
Some poetry and fiction novels really benefit from the reader's imagination to bring the writer's "world" to life for a more entertaining experience.
And here we are, with the world's most authoritative work, the bible, and no 2 people can agree exactly how or when or what parts should be read literally or metaphorically.
And if that's not bad enough, people try to live their life by it!
I don't get how they don't get it
Maybe you should clarify who you're speaking to because I for one have never argued that anything in the bible should be taken as a metaphor except those things which are obviously metaphor, such as parables or some prophecies (e.g. book of Revelation).

Right, no metaphors except for the metaphors. Got it!
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

I’m glad the Bible doesn’t read, like something written by lawyers. I don’t find it that difficult, but your mileage may vary.

You should read the Gospel.
And we all fail the test, even when we are told what to do.

If we just read the gospel, all the problems that arise from a reading of the gospel will resolve themselves. You betcha!

Oh of course you're right. That makes it so much more plausible all of a sudden. It was only one talking serpent rather than many of them. Much like there was only one talking donkey. But no doubt you'll say that it was because it was given the power of speech by a god so it's an exception. That makes it so much more plausible, especially when you have to consider what would be required to make that happen.
</sarcasm>
It's still all fairy tales that you believe genuinely happened. You really have no idea how the world works.
Hint: Magic doesn't exist.
The point I'm making is the one who claimed things about what the scriptures said has no idea what they say, he/she is ignorant about the scriptures, having no idea other than to repeat what others have said. God didn't have to change the donkey, He himself could have been speaking through the donkey. Whether He changed the donkey or spoke through it the words were His regardless. By the way God created the universe and all in it in six days, it would not have been a strain to change the donkey in seconds. You're right there is no magic, unless you want to consider the story of evolution, God's powers are real and his power and magic have nothing in common.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

Exactly, your magic is not magic. Duly noted.

It would be quite interesting to have each Christian rewrite a section of the bible to plainly say what they think it's saying, and then compare them all. Or, they could highlight which parts are literal and which aren't.
They can't even agree if the very first story, regarding the "creation" of everything, actually happened or not. You'd think someone would have put this question to God by now.
