It's very true about the grass always looking greener on the other side of the fence - until you jump the fence. Or maybe it really is greener there but that's because there's shit lying around everywhere. I would think twice about fleeing the USA because of the problems here. Research it carefully.

Personally, I see a lot to like about Australia. I've always thought it would be a place I would want to go if I found the USA intolerable.

She did say part of her ancestry was Cuban, but while Cuba isn't quite as bad as it was a few years ago, it is, alas, kind of a third-world country. They did get 3G Wi-Fi over a year ago, but I hear the human rights situation is still not much better than it was when Fidel was in charge.

I know that, in America, the average black person has enough white ancestry (mostly through several generations of Massa) to make up an entire great-grandparent. But given that A) BQ has said she's mixed Black and Cuban, I suspect this might not quite apply to her, and B) most Irish-Americans (as opposed to the Scotch-Irish who mostly came from what is now mostly Northern Ireland, which is NOT legally part of Ireland proper) were too poor to even own slaves before the 1865 abolition of slavery, and C) if I'm reading the Irish nationality law correctly, this applies to people with an Irish born grandparent or later, which is unlikely to be the case for many Americans, let alone African-Americans, I doubt this would be a helpful option for her.

Have you tried a different area in the U.S.? I know the federal government isn't all that great, but there is a lot to be said about the varying cultures from state to state. Massachusetts, for example, isn't likely to be a problem for a disabled minority. We also have Romney care.

Well, I can’t be certain that this is good enough for BQ’s purposes, but it’s clearly at least a step up from Murfreesboro. Of course, given that Boston’s street system is so chaotic (because the growth of the city was so haphazard that the city may as well have been designed by a spider [the old story about paving cow paths appears to be an urban legend]), I suspect that this can’t be good for someone who’s visually impaired. Maybe some other parts of the state.

I’ve live in two states TN and OH. Oddly podunk as it was Murfreesboro TN was more accessible and safer than Cleveland OH

And, as mentioned before, while the situation with Cuba does seem to be improving, I can’t expect the human rights situation to be much better under Raúl Castro than even under Trump. That would seem a big drawback to invoking a right of return in Cuba (well, that and I don’t think the 2013 migration reforms seem to apply to Cubans born in America [like I’ve been assuming you are] only people born in Cuba. I could be wrong on both counts, though.)

I suspect that this is going to be the best answer.

No where in the world will have all the benefits of the US and none of its problems. Especially if someone wants special help with disabilities from day one, finding somewhere to move is going to be tough.

It can be tempting to invoke a right to return to another country, but it’s not always practical to expect it to work. Case in point, a plurality of my ancestry (40.5% to be precise), is German. And Germany, teething troubles regarding refugees and migrants aside, is actually doing pretty well. And at one point, my mother said that if the Iraq War got to the point where we reinstituted the draft, we were leaving the country (the fact that autism is a disqualifying condition aside). So, it kind of made sense to toy with the idea of looking for a backup plan for countries to move to if the US became a total shithole (yes, even worse than it is now). I looked into Germany, and it turned out that, while normally, you had to live in Germany 8 years before you became a citizen, you could speed up the process if you had sufficient ties with Germany. Unfortunately, 40.5% German blood doesn’t mean a fucking thing if all your ancestors left before the German Unification in 1871 (and I’m fairly certain the cutoff is far more recent than that, Weimar era at the very least.) And I still would have had to do a tour of duty in the Bundeswehr. To be fair, as militaries go, they are a joke, largely by choice (for understandable reasons), and my German history teacher described his time as consisting mostly of doing donuts in tanks.
