Official Says Haitian Migrants Being Released on 'Very, Very Large Scale' Into U.S.
Haitian migrants are being released on a "very, very large scale" into the U.S. in recent days, according to an official with knowledge of the matter. The official said that the number of migrants being released was in the thousands, contradicting the Biden administration's warnings that the migrants faced immediate expulsion., the Associated Press reported.
The official said that many of those released into the U.S. were issued notices to appear at an immigration office within a 60-day period, which allows Border Patrol workers to process them quicker than the alternative of ordering them to appear in immigration court.
Additionally, the Department of Homeland Security has been transporting Haitian migrants from Del Rio to several locations along the Texas border and flying some to Tucson, Arizona, where Border Patrol agents are processing them, the official said.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

More power to them. This "public health emergency" crap is just a rationale for short-circuiting their normal protections. Statistics show that immigrants aren't any greater a health threat than natives.

Statistics show that they're less-so. Mexicans don't have to deal with a politicized vaccination debate. We're kindof oddballs, on that count.

I can't speak to the statistics, but I'm acutely aware of Mexico's own struggles with both vaccination and testing - namely, that lack of vaccine availability has Mexico sporting a vaccination rate that makes Idaho look good by comparison, and the testing rate is about 20x higher in the USA. There's a lot more COVID in Mexico than the official numbers indicate.
Not that that's a reason to treat refugees with anything less than compassion....

No kidding. When you look at the vaccination rates between red and blue states, even just among white people born here, it is really glaring as to whom the real threat is to public health. White Republican denial is the biggest heath threat to America right now.
But that is not what Biden is doing what he is doing. It is a volume thing, not a race thing, not a xenophobia thing. Obama's administration deported people too. In a perfect world, it would be great if we could let anyone in who is innocent whom is simply trying not to die. But the fact is we only can do so much.
Even without climate refugees, because of the Republicans and farts noise claiming masks and vaccine mandates are oppression, our hospitals are at max and we are unfortunately to the point in many locals, to the point of rationing care.
What media isn't reporting enough, is that although Biden is deporting, he still has a priority agenda. And actually this has been the norm most of our history. The most vulnerable, such as political asylum, and women, children and men with severe health risk get to the front of the line. Trump and the GOP are assholes, and they would tell Malala to fuck off.
Point is, migration is not a utopia. In a perfect world everyone would get in. But we do not live in a perfect world.
In the last days of Nam, when America decided to pull out, we only managed to bring a couple thousand political refugees back with us. Biden managed to save over 150k Afghanis.
If anyone thinks, say outside the former fuckface, and still fuckface, that most Presidents in the past 50 years revel in seeing other humans suffer, they have to be out of their minds. As much as I hated what Reagan's economics were, he DID end the cold war. Biden isn't like Trump, not even close. But he is a captain on a cruise ship unfortunately having to decide who gets on the life boats, because there are only so many seats.

That's not the point. Seeking asylum should be an equal opportunity thing, not dependent on where you enter and what country you are coming from. Biden is doing it because it's a cost free way to make a big problem he has significantly smaller. It's for the benefit of the Democratic administration, not for us Americans

But not deporting them could be sold as a benefit for Americans. USians are shying away from service jobs because of shitty pay and shitty treatment - immigrants would a ready-made labour force to fill that hole. $8/hour, an uncertain schedule, no benefits and abusive customers who didn’t get enough pickles on their burger? SCORE!!

There were about 120K refugees were brought to the US. That's quite a few more then a "couple thousand".
As usual, you are talking out your ass.

I agree. But regardless, it still is an issue of ability to process and volume. That is not what the GOP argues. They argue racism, xenophobia, otherism and white nationalism.
My x wife and I while had a mutual friend from Japan, who attended the same college we both graduated from. He was a nice guy. But he overstayed his visa and got deported back to Japan. I would have loved for him to stay if conditions had allowed it. But unlike the political refugees from Afghanistan, or the climate refugees from Mexico and Central and South America, our friend was far less likely to face poverty or death by sending him back.
We don't live in a utopia.
When the right wing GOP argues turning people away, it is nothing short of sick racism. When the left does it, it is matter of prioritizing counting the number of seats in the lifeboat. If people want more innocent people to get in and survive, I am all for that. But out of the two parties only one insists on gutting funding to everything to make sure Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Richard Branson have their sky dildos.
