Clear as mud.

Thanks...

Well, the topic seems to be gun violence and how to address it. In societies with high rates of gun violence, the chief cause is the behaviours and attitudes of the people in that society towards guns. I indict a gun culture that leads to violence.

I don’t think I can make it any plainer that that.

In the US, one aspect of our gun culture that probably does the most damage - a thing that's changed about us gun culture just in living memory - is that a fairly large portion of gun purchasers and owners will tell you they bought a firearm...for self defense.

It's a thing we think is for shooting people.  This, predictably, leads to people being shot.

In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. Are you pretending that the whole of the US is unified on the subject?

Your claim of " gun culture" is like saying " the color of the rainbow" - like there is only one....

Hate to clue you in - but opinions here differ. There is no " gun culture" - just a whole lot of people - some of which own guns.

If there is ever a Zombie Apocalypse, you'll be thankful for the 2nd Amendment, and, especially, all of that spare ammo.

I think you're being deliberately obtuse. No sub-culture is universal, and I never said otherwise. Gun culture refers to peoples' attitudes about guns.

 American gun culture consists of:

-Gun ownership is a right.

-Guns keep me and my family safe.

-I need guns to protect my property.

-Guns prevent crime. And so on.

Does each and every American believe the same things about guns? Let's not be silly - not even all gun owners believe the same things.  But these beliefs DO appear to be pervasive in American society. But simply because there are differences of opinion regarding guns doesn't mean there's no such thing as 'American gun culture'.

So what are you indicting?

Opinions? Of which there are camps diametrically opposed?

....

Actually - it appears that what you want is to stereotype. You want to say there is this " culture" of really bad people who are responsible for all the problems. As if somehow this undefined cabal of nefarious motherfuckers is in charge of everything.....

Sure..

That' s reasonable...

Words, what do they mean, right?

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Incorrect: It's protected by activist reich-wing judges deliberately misinterpreting what those three amendments actually said.

If you need to go through a series of tests to show that you're physically, mentally and psychologically capable of driving a car before being let behind the wheel, I cannot see how the same can't apply to a tool designed explicitly to kill other people. Countries that don't apply this standards are frankly not civilised.
