What makes you think that?

People drop dead all the time. News outlets generally do not investigate the causes of such deaths. Unless perhaps it is a teenager dying soon after a vaccine.

Please let me know right now if you're an anti-vaxxer so I can ignore you forever

I strongly suspect coconuts kill more people by causing heart attacks than by falling on peoples' heads because, well, all that saturated fat in coconuts causes a dangerous spike in cholesterol levels. And death by heart disease is way more common than death by unintentional injury. Why do you think differently?

No, I am not an anti-vaxxer. I simply say that, by random chance alone, some teenager (in Ukraine, if I am not mistaken) dropped dead soon after getting a vaccine, and that it made, unlike many other sudden deaths, into the international news.

In science we say as much as we can say based on the evidence we have, and we don’t say more until we have evidentiary support for it. In this case, we can make reasonable inferences based on the available data and use them to set guidelines for saturated fat intake, but what we cannot do is say “coconuts cause heart disease.”

How was that ambiguous?

Without a crystal ball, I’m not sure how any reasonable, evidence-minded person could make such an assertion as “they would have developed heart disease if only they didn’t die in that car crash.” How could anyone possibly know that? Have you any idea the myriad of factors that play a role in disease manifestation and progression? It’s not just one bio-marker.

Of course they can. I was a clinical dietitian at a nursing home for several years. Almost every one of my residents had dislipidemia, lol.

To be frank, I don’t think someone who still has so many questions (and I’m glad you have questions; that’s how we learn) should be posting YouTube videos from a place of self-ascribed authority on any of these issues; especially with the audacity to call opposing views “obvious nonsense.” I encourage you to take some courses in nutrition and dietetics if you’re interested in the subject, and spend a few years learning before making further clinical declarations about medical nutrition therapy and posting them to the internet.

OK, let's say you are right, that there is not enough evidence for us to be certain that coconuts cause heart disease. So what? There is certainly even less evidence that they are safe, much less beneficial to people with type-2-diabetes.

That’s why we have guidelines in place for saturated fat intake that are updated when new data becomes available. What is your obsession with coconuts? It’s weird.

Your thread is about the dangers of coconut.

You are the one who switched gears to vaccines.

Calm yourself.

By the way, do you also think eggs do not cause heart disease? Because most saturated fat in eggs, just like in coconuts, is the lauric acid. Yet, the evidence that eggs cause heart disease really seems overwhelming, doesn't it?

The trick is to not eat the yolk, hence egg whites.

I think that this is a myth based on another myth that the cholesterol you eat significantly affects cholesterol in your blood. The yellow part of the egg contains the vast majority of the cholesterol, but saturated fat (which is the actual enemy) is about equally distributed in the white and the yellow part of an egg.

You seem to be missing the entire distinction between whole foods and individual nutrients. As I said, that’s why we have saturated fat guidelines. Eggs are considered low in fat; 4.6g per egg; and only 1.6g of that is saturated fat. Eggs are a nutrition powerhouse. The yolk is packed with vitamins and minerals. They’re a good source of complete protein, affordable, and super versatile. I don’t know what you do for a living, but please stick to that, and stay away from nutrition. You have zero clinical experience, and therefore you have no business at all telling people what to eat or not eat for specific medical conditions. In fact, it’s illegal in many states.
