Fucking stupid. I generally have you on ignore, due to the stupidity of your replies. You're one of the straw throwers. I have you on ignore for that reason- you're just generally acting like a bitch. I'd certainly hate to live inside your head, since the nose part seems to be firmly planted in OLB's ass.
You have me on ignore because you are too much of a pussy to back up your bullshit claims (like showing a single example of a strawman) on top of that you seem confused about whose head is shoved up OLB's ass. Now kindly fuck off you ball-less brown-nosing snake  Dodgy

I think it goes back to what Boru said in the OP: “Doing things that make your constituents lives better isn’t a bribe. It is - literally - your fucking job.” The more I look at politics, the more convinced I become that not only does the right (especially in America) reject that premise, but that rejection is the defining characteristic; everything else follows from that. If anything they do benefits anyone besides themselves, plutocrats, the police/military/anyone who makes their living with firearms, and maybe hate groups, it's almost certainly by accident.

The difference between right wing and left wing politicians is that the left are mandated to work for the good of everybody while the right are mandated to either work for the good of the rich or maintain the status quo.

Yes, I know it doesn't always go that way, but it's easier to say fuck the poor when it's your party's raison d'étre.

My argument was that it's a financial incentive. And that "student" is just a way to make it justifiable. You can pay your private car loan with federal money if they send it to you directly—that's what people did with their stimulus checks.

Just as an aside, I read where a study showed that just giving people money to address their problems was more effective than dictating the money be spent on specific remedies.

That's what some people did.  Most of them blew the money on scratch offs and Slim Jims  (<-sarcastic generalization.)  Forgiving debt gives people what they need instead of what they want.

Nevertheless, a lender forgiving debt shouldn't be objectionable.  You make a good point that the extra money will stimulate the economy, perhaps even better than checks.

Debts they took on because the economy all but requires a college degree for most jobs by this point, especially if you expect to afford to eat anything better than dog food (and even graduating is no guarantee that you'll actually get a job) and the costs of college tuition keep going up, often by significantly more than could be justified by inflation. And the pandemic is making the economy even worse, making it even harder to actually get a job. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of the consequences of student debt.

And I'd be part of that 1 in 8 if not for the fact that my grandmother's home sold shortly after I graduated from Columbia and I had to give much of the proceeds to the lenders to pay off the loans.
Cry me a fucking river..

We spent the last 8 years paying off.my SO's student loans - by scrimping - and making double payments every month.

We have not taken a vacation in that entire time. No new toys. Every purchase has to be considered.

When you take a loan - you take on the MORAL as well as the legal obligation to pay it back....

If that' s too hard for you - pay cash - or do without.

So, personal bankruptcy laws are bother immoral and illegal?

Hmmm well it does sound like a bribe—we'll give you money if you give us your vote. What meaningful difference is there between forgiving student loans and forgiving auto loans? The end result is financially the same for the individual: Less debt.

Unfortunately, I don't follow political debates enough to know what it all entails. But unless the reform is to make education free, and unless that change is implemented first, then what does forgiving student loans do besides buying votes?

And if your intent is to bribe, then at least offer auto and mortgage alternatives for those who don't have student debt. It'll make your constituents lives better all the same.

(bold mine)

If that's what was being proposed, it absolutely WOULD be a bribe. But what is on the table is, 'We'll give you this money whether or not you give us your vote.'

LOL

If you have 2 uncles - and one gives you lavish presents and one gives you squat - which is going to be your favorite uncle?

Not calling it a bribe doesn' t make it not a bribe.

But keep trying... It' s cute when you defend one side and would blast the other for the exact same offense...

Yeah, I agree. There's only one way to make sure you receive the money—by voting for the one offering it.

-My uncles don’t have a job description to represent me in government.

-And it doesn’t become a bribe simply because you insist it is one.

-I don’t understand your last bit. I would defend any lawmaker who supported legislation to forgive student loans, if that’s what you’re getting at. What is the ‘offense’ you’re referring to?
