To be sure. But I think the Jan6ers were a special kind of dumb unique to any corner of the political spectrum.

Well, a combination of dumb, gullible, and sociopathic.

They may be bad with words, but they knew what they were doing. They're aware of all the jingositic shit about watering the tree of liberty with the blood of patriots. They're aware of the growing notion that they would have to rise up and take their country back, by force.

It's like asking a mouth breather whether or not they committed homicide. Maybe they stare blankly at you. Commitatus-HOMO-what? Fine, you kill that boy? Oh, kill him, yeah, I did that. You could tell they knew exactly what they'd done by the speed and fury with which they fled the scene immediately after. Their only regret, that it didn't work....this time.

No guns at the Capitol on that day? Guess again:

Quote:INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A central Indiana man pleaded guilty Friday to carrying a loaded gun on the Capitol grounds and assaulting police during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, federal prosecutors said.

Mark Andrew Mazza, 57, of Shelbyville pleaded guilty in the District of Columbia.

Court documents say Mazza brought a revolver loaded with three shotgun shells and two hollow point bullets to the Capitol but lost possession of the revolver. He made his way to a tunnel area with doors leading into the Capitol Building and joined a collective effort of rioters to push through at least 20 officers who were defending the tunnel entrance, records say.

He held a door to allow other rioters to attack officers with flag poles, batons, sticks and stolen law enforcement shields, records say. He wrestled a baton from an officer’s hand and swung it, striking one officer in the arm, records say.

Yeah, that's always been a silly one. They recovered all sorts of weapons and ammo, and a couple bombs. They'd brought enough firepower to murder every member many times over. I suppose that people might wonder why they didn't bring enough guns to overwhelm the police..but the insurgents themselves could explain that one to you.

They strongly expected..and have always had good reason to expect..that the cops would be on Their Side. Many of them expressed this, and their genuine confusion and disappointment... to those cops, to their faces, all throughout the attempt.

Unarmed indeed

Quote:Lonnie Leroy Coffman of Alabama was also arrested that evening after law enforcement found two firearms on his person, as well as what a federal judge  as a "small armory" in his truck, which was parked near the Capitol. According to the court, the government found "a loaded handgun," "a loaded rifle," "a loaded shotgun," "a crossbow with bolts," "several machetes," "a stun gun" and "11 mason jars containing a flammable liquid, with a hole punched in the top of each jar." According to the government, surveillance footage showed him "in attendance at the events at the Capitol," though he has not been charged with breaching the building.

And, ironically, IA’s attempt at drawing a parallel between the Dems and the Republicans only manages to demonstrate how different their reactions are. They talk about conspiracies, but they do what they can to make sure if it’s true instead of just taking whatever their Dear Leader claims as Gospel. And if you’re still hazy about what happened, just what happened is explained in detail in The Muller Report.

If they think the laws governing the election are unfair, they don’t invade Congress. They do what (admittedly little) they can to try and change the laws, often by targeting voting restrictions that (in practice) tends to disenfranchise people, particularly minorities. And let’s hope that enough states enact the NPVIC in the next couple years to render the Electoral College obsolete, so that no other candidate can win the Presidency despite having 3 million fewer votes than their opponent.

And once it becomes clear that, regardless of whatever efforts they may take, the other guy’s coming into office, they accept that fact and move on to opposing his agenda and making this president’s first term his last.

The average dem and the average repub are both pretty damn gullible  https://www.brookings.edu/research/how-m...behaviors/ If Hillary or Jojo said they were screwed, I'd wager that millions of their supporters would believe them. Would they do what the Trumpers did on J6. Hopefully not and I wouldn't try to make that claim, to be clear. And I think you are entirely wrong about trying to get rid of the EC and biringing up the Dems getting 3 million more votes, which is just not relevant at all to the outcome of the election, and the other side is just going to see you as wanting to rig elections by getting away from the EC. To be clear though, I do understand where you're coming from with the EC because I used to have your same position on that for years, and as a young person who was in my teens and early 20s, it only seemed like common sense to go with who got the most votes, but as a more mature person, I switched over to being in favour of the EC vote because it just makes far more sense to me right now, and when I hear people talking about getting rid of the EC or just adding more supreme court justices, these things come off as "rigging" to me, and I am against them.

When asked to estimate the share of deaths by age group, the average American dramatically overestimates the share of COVID-19 deaths from people aged 24 and younger, putting it around 8%, when in fact it was 0.1% through August and has remained close to that level since. Meanwhile the elderly,  those 65 and older, had accounted for 81% of deaths at the time of the survey (and 79% through November). Democrats were further off than Republicans and more likely to overstate the risks to young people, even after accounting for age, race, gender, geographic, and educational differences.

The U.S. public is also deeply misinformed about the severity of the virus for the average infected person. In December, we asked, “What percentage of people who have been infected by the coronavirus needed to be hospitalized?”

The correct answer is not precisely known, but it is highly likely to be between 1% and 5% according to the best available estimates, and it is unlikely to be much higher or lower. We discuss the data and logic behind this conclusion in the appendix.
Less than one in five U.S. adults (18%) give a correct answer of between 1 and 5%. Many adults (35%) say that at least half of infected people need hospitalization. If that were true, the millions of resulting patients would have overwhelmed hospitals throughout the pandemic.

Democrats are much more likely than Republicans to overestimate this harm. Forty-one percent of Democrats and 28% of Republicans answered that half or more of those infected by COVID-19 need to be hospitalized. Republicans were also far more likely to get the correct answer, with 26% correctly identifying the risk compared to just 10% of Democrats.

This is in the wrong thread and should be in the COVID dump thread.

If you plan to continue to derail this thread into one of your COVID isn't a thing threads...that will be remedied.
