If it will soothe your troubled heart, I'll say this: For much of his life, Harry Truman's opinions on race made him a piece of shit. From the time he became President, however, his views about Blacks and Asians changed significantly, meriting the removal of the POS moniker. If Kanye changes similarly, I'll be unlikely to continue calling him a piece of shit.

I'm not going to name names here, but this thread has reminded me of something else alarming about the republican party: You can't say anything bad about nazis without having to hear about free speech.

Know how they love to go on about how America used to be great? Well, one of the things that used to be much better in America is that 20 years ago, if you just mentioned nazis, everyone instantly understood they were the bad guy. Period. Nowadays, Kanye West gets up on mainstream republican news outlets, praises Hitler and instead of saying that nazis were bad, trumpanzees are all whining about freedom of speech. I wish republicans thought freedom of speech was this important for Colin Kaepernick or even Anthony Faucci, but that's beside the point.

Well, I mean, yeah, freedom of speech does mean that Kanye or Nick Fuentes or Milo Yiannopoulos can make any crazy statement they want and the government won't step in and stop them. But freedom of speech also means I can tell him he's being an asshole. And it means that private, corporate entities can say he's being an asshole and that they no longer want to do business with him. It also means that private businesses don't have to amplify his words if they don't want to.

Yes, absolutely, Kanye has the freedom of speech to cheer on Hitler. Nobody is arguing that. My question for republicans is this: why, when neo nazis and klansmen make these kinds of statements, do you jump to their defense instead of agreeing with everyone else that they're being assholes?
