I'm 18, dropped out, and push carts. You mirin'? I'm a drop out too, but I don't push carts.
And another thing, also quite important:
Sooner or later, America will unfortunately fall from its status as a superpower. It happens to all empires just as surely as death happens to every person. We'll never be invaded, I don't mean that, but our economic and political influence will one day recede. When we realize we're going to die, a mature person thinks about what legacy they will leave behind. How did they touch the lives of those around them? Will they be respected for their contributions or reviled for the pain they inflicted? When America's turn at bat is over, what will our legacy be? Will we be the obnoxious prick who screamed "We're #1" all the way down? Who preached the right and did the wrong? Who spoke of freedom and advocated unlawful detention and torture? Who said "international law for thee but not for me"? Or will we be a nation respected for living up to its ideals of liberty and constitutional law? Will we be the nation that helped bring the world together, not under an empire but under mutual international law, starting with Wilson's vision of a League of Nations to the UN today? What would you like our legacy to be?

There's a reason why socialism is popular with young people, and then as they grow older become republicans. What is "socialism" to you? Back in my day, when I was a Reagan-idolizing Republican, "socialism" was a specific economic and political model. It mean in theory "worker's control" but in reality was "government control" of ALL private enterprise. You didn't call someone a "socialist" unless they used that label for themselves, and it wasn't a pejorative but a identification like "liberal" or "conservative". These days "socialism" has become a shrill insult screamed at anyone to the left of Libermann.

Socialism is using violence to solve social problems under the name of 'the will of people'. You can have full socialism, as in USSR, North Korea, Cuba, etc. Then you have partial socialism like EU. Yeah here in Europe we all live in fear of the secret EU police. They try to force us to pool our resources so that society can function in a fair manner. Fuckers. Riiiiiight.. I live in a country with some of the highest taxes (actually, they increased the VAT this year) in the world and I don't mind that poorer people 'leech' off of my paycheck. I'm poor, but I live a good life and there's always someone who needs help more than me. Are you really so selfish that you just want to live well and can feel content with yourself when others around you suffer?
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura
