Darkstar all of your responses take the form of dogmatic political correctness, naked assertions and a violent zeal to resist your own memory and perceptions of the world.

I think you are a cool dude, as much as I disagree with your ideological approach to atheist demographics and your failure to discern the inherent contradiction between nihilism/moral relativism and family values.

Yes, I absolute want to call into question the concept of an "atheist family". How can an atheist be a good father? How can they teach their children the right way to live if they are responsible for making up the right way to live? This is perverted and evil.

Fathers are supposed to teach their kids how to live.

Yes it is true that in the Old Testament rebellious children are stoned, but I think they are probably more talking about rebellious teenagers. They were more severe in some ways than we are, in other ways less severe. They didn't have nuclear weapons in the Old Testament, and people had much more clearly defined social responsibilities to each other. Also, they were more strict about things like money lending and the system of redistribution of wealth and social development was much more advanced than it is today.

I understand why you think there is a contradiction, I simply disagree.

And...what is the correct way? Do you know the answer? You said some time ago that we probably have similar views on morals, so why is it assumed that I cannot come to justifiable conclusions about morals?

While it is true that people are ultimately responsible for finding the right way to live, that doesn't mean that some morals aren't demonstrably superior to others. Unless I am mistaken, the only snag we caught on was that you rejected my support for the value of human life as being a presupposition.

I am curious, though, as to what exactly the objective morals you claim god gave us are. I have heard of god given morals many times, but I assume by this you don't mean the stoning of punk teenagers.

They had god, much worse. Just ask the people of Sodom and Gomorrah. Wink

Define "advanced".

Quote:value of human life as a presupposition

This completely undercuts the authority of the entire system, and makes it equivalent to nihilism + a non authoritative moral postulate. This is unacceptable for anyone who is a critical thinker.

Quote:agreement on morality

I think there is some agreement between us on morality because we are both the result of a theistic civilization that has interpreted biological characteristic such as empathy in light of Judeo-Christian values such as "you shall love your neighbor as yourself".

The difference is that this belief exists as a postulate of morality that is on a much lower evidential level if atheism is true and is really more like a faith-based opinion than a serious belief, while with Christianity the connection between the biology of human behavior and the design of humans is seen.

Yeah, that's a silly comparison. Nazi ideology recognized a single person as a leader who was to be followed with utmost loyalty. Its adherents understood that its aim was to crush its enemies underfoot and wipe out entire populations of non-Nazis in order to secure living space for those who serve the conqueror. They accepted rules and mandates that led to the torture and execution of millions of innocents whose only crime was that they weren't Nazis, or weren't sufficiently Nazi.

That's absolutely nothing like... holy shit...
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Not to mention that they had the backing of the church.

To be clear, and to be fair, only certain sections of the church backed Hitler, and that came primarily in the form of turning a blind eye while making concessions and maintaining a certain degree of affiliation.

How do you know which things are good? People go to hell not because they are good, but because they are evil. How do you know what you are doing is good?

Oh, I forgot. You need religion to be a good person. I know this might stretch beyond your thinking, but I can better people's lives without subscribing to God.

jstrodel Wrote:atheism, as a belief system that is inherently nihilistic (regardless of what atheists say they believe ethically) is next to impossible to apply spiritually...

Yes, because no matter what I say I believe, atheism is nihilism. That's your fucked up and horribly incorrect definition of it. You won't hear anything opposing it, so I won't bother.

Quote:I used to be an atheist, and I was hostile to others religion. When I became a Christian, I assumed that it was ok to challenge others religious convictions, since they could advance their own claims. God judged me severely, and I am still being judged, because of the seed of atheism, nihilism and anarchy I had sown into others lives. I told them essentially with my "intellectual doubts" that they could do whatever they want. I sold them into slavery into their lusts and flesh.

I don't know what the hell you were involved in. So you were nihilistic and an anarchist, so all atheists are nihilistic anarchists? You've applied this backwards logic in nearly every single one of your posts. BECAUSE YOU WERE A FUCKED UP PERSON, DOESN'T MEAN EVERY ATHEIST IS ALSO A FUCKED UP PERSON. Learn to realize that the world is bigger than your own experiences. Jesus fuckin' Christ.

Quote:One person that I talked to about atheism was at one time a devout Christian, very self disciplined, cared about others, had a serious moral compass guiding him. Now, he is an atheist, drinks, parties, doesn't care that he is arrogant, is very condescending and doesn't seem to show any responsibility to others.

Which means atheism kills morals and ruins people, right? And my formerly Atheist friend now turned Christian who works at the local church embezzles money and would never give a dime to the poor, never do any works to better the world. Which means every Christian is a greedy asshole. Am I doing this right?

Quote:Atheism severely impacts peoples character. Atheists are typically ok with insulting and ridiculing people, with being unkind, with being haughty, with telling lies intentionally and they are quick to excuse foolish behavior, hedonism, errors, sexual perversion, etc.

More examples of your backwards logic, you fucking moron.

Before you use any of this post as evidence for your backward logic, know that I've tried reasoning with you 150 posts ago. It never worked. Now you just annoy me and anger me. Which is weird, because I'm being angered by a computer screen.

Quote:The choice to accept or reject God is the most important decision people will make.

My decision whether or not to take a dump before a planeride is more important than that. Because that particular decision is an actual decision that will affect future events. in the real world. The one that exists, you know?

Quote:If you cannot accept everything that I am saying, at least accept this: "when you advocate atheism, you are not only advocating atheism, you are advocating everything that atheism implies, moral relativism, nihilism, the possibility that almost any end will be chosen as the highest one, a rejection of everything the Christian church has in the way of counseling families and informing the raising of children, and the children that follow them".

You're a fucking moron. I'm atheist, I'm not nihilist, I have morals, and I attend a Church and take part in their charity works. Great people. I can think of one Christian I know who's a fucking dickhole: jstrodel.

Your backwards logic is most particularly backwards.

Quote:It is a serious thing. God will remember each thing that is done by the seed that you sow.

Don't worry, jstrodel. I'll pray for you. Pray the pearly gates of Heaven don't have a minimum IQ requirement.

I'm going to read your response to this, then put you on Ignore. Because getting angry at my computer screen is a waste of my time.
