I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Seriously though, I asked because it doesn't make sense, and I wanted to see how people sort this stuff out in their head. So far the answer seems to be, they don't.
post 13 So the next time someone says something like "Christ died for our sins" I should tell them they are wrong? I should explain to them that he died for no reason, but was resurrected for our sins? And that if he had died of, say, pneumonia, nothing much would be different?

I gave your non-argument a more complete response than I felt it deserved, honestly. It isn't moving the goalposts when I take your own word game and run with the logical consequences.

Zarith...it all has to do with "reconciliation". Repairing the disconnect between man and God.
If you think about it long enough it does make sense!
We died of our free-will at God's hands. God (as Jesus) died of His free-will at our hands.
When God makes a statement like this: "If you sin you will surely die." Death and sin became one in that statement. He can't go back on His Word. He has to find a way to remedy it.
The remedy was for Him to die. The ONE WITHOUT SIN. This opened the door for sinners. Because DEATH WAS ONLY MEANT FOR SINNERS! He died to destroy sin and death!
So, NOW... God can circumvent (for explanation purposes) His condemation...IF we want to live! Thus the question in Words: "Do you believe Christ died for your sins?"
And all this was for LOVE of His creation. And we have to want His Love to benefit! Death in the spiritual sense has been destroyed. But we all still need to go through it in the physical sense.

There is only one thing you have to do: "I believe Christ died for my sins."
F-K the rest!

But it wouldn't matter if I -did- believe that Ron, I still couldn't sign on. If some poor schmuck got tied to a post and executed for something I had done - and this was somehow part of the very fabric of the cosmos as gods will in action................

Its about LOVE!
And I have had the concern you have! And only through the Holy Spirit was I able to understand...and it's a constant learning process! I didn't wake up one day and say: "I have it NOW!" ....hell-no!
Most don't fully understand the concept...including me at times!
But, because of love, God feels responsible for what we have to go through... even if we did sin against Him.
Its like our children! I have several...and there is NOTHING I wouldn't do for them! Including laying down my life!
God feels the same way about us!
