SES, Surf Life Savers, Fire Fighters

Oh and Flying Doctor Service. The emergency Helicopter service I think comes under SES

Hey! Look at all of these charities we give to without supporting bigotry! Whodathunkit?

/sarcasm

The Salvation Army does some good, yes, but there are plenty of others that do good without also threatening people with death, "spiritual" or otherwise. I like Make A Wish, the DAV, and women's shelters, where I volunteer off-and-on and also contribute money.

The OT god is just a manifestation in a stone age book of the bullshit homophobic, sexist, murdering, child abusive, animal sacfricing, child sacrificing, rape advocates, and all around screwed up assholes who wrote the damn thing to indocrinate and claim authority over others. Fuck the Bible.

The green cross code man = God. The atheist gets run over ignoring Gods laws. The green cross code man is a murderer.

I sponsor a child in Myanmar through World Vision. I also have a Virgin Money Charity credit card where all he cashback I earn goes to Cancer Research UK.

On a related note I'm doing the Shine Walking Marathon for Cancer Research UK in September with a few girls from work. We hope to raise about £2,500 for charity.

*off topic*

That's cool. My dad is dying of terminal cancer so I'm doing a skydive in aid of Macmillan cancer care nurses and cancer research. I've already had a couple of people say they'd pray for me. I'd much prefer they donate what they can afford because prayer isn't going to aid in the treatment of a tumour.

On a side note, I will only ever give money to secular charities because I know that in general their manifesto is built upon a temporal cause and not a spurious spiritual one.

I'll give money and help where I think it's going to be most effective. I have no prejudice.

Same here, just happens that I think my money is most effectively invested in new stereo speakers and a new 354" TV set Big Grin

Nah, kudos to you guys who give your hard earned money to charitable causes. If everyone just picked and supported one charitable field which they feel most strongly about then we wouldn't recognize the place. Clap

Very true, and even if you can't support them with money, you usually can with time. I'm generally not in a position that I can spend a bunch of money on charities, so instead I spend a couple hours a week teaching people to read and write when they've slipped through the cracks of the educational system.

I prefer volunteering over giving money. Money isn't good in itself, money can pervert people and actually work against a good cause, but if you give your valuable time, that's basically always beneficial because you're in touch with the results.
