GodsChild a Few Quick Questions?

Nope. Because an all-powerful and all-loving God that gives us an instruction manual for how He wants us to live, but allows that instruction manual to be corrupted is a deal breaker for me.

Yeah, now with the internet we can easily research this. But for thousands of years people were led astray because God didn't care enough to keep the one thing we really needed accurate and the poor slobs had no possible way to know.

lol, so this is your cop-out? Arguing from the past? No quoting scripture? No insisting that it is to be read a certain way?

You're waffling man, deal with "eternal" before you fill your posts with fluff, deflection and denial please.

I've always believed this. I was taught that the Word of God is perfect. When I first encountered someone who rejected certain books of the Bible I was shocked.

I understand why the sentiment that the Word of God is perfect originated though.

Because it makes no sense for God to give us the Bible and then let everyone fuck it up, change it, rewrite parts of it, and then we're stuck with all kinds of miscommunication.

It's a deal breaker. That's not a cop out.

Saying that God didn't give a crap about the poor people living in the backwoods in 1832 that were trying to be good little Christians but were following a fucked up Bible is a deal breaker for me.

That's not a God who gives one shit about people.

So, if you try to defend the Bible by saying it really doesn't say what it is supposed to say because God doesn't give a fuck about keeping it accurate that's a deal breaker as far as I'm concerned.

I don't give a crap about eternal.

Look, I've run into theists that claimed you had to fluently learn Greek and Hebrew and study the oldest known source material available to mankind in order to know God's word.

Pbbht.

Fine. Whatever. The Bible is worthless so let's just chunk that sucker out the window.

Matthew 25:41
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels."

Matthew 25:46
"And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

2 Thessalonians 1:9
"They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, "

Dude, would you have posted those passages if I had openly predicted that you would do exactly such a thing? "Then, after you adopt the literal fundy stance (I.E. insists it means eternal because that's what the English translation says)"

I find it humorous that Catfish keeps putting down the literal interpretation of the Bible in a thread started as a question to a Christian that interprets the Bible literally.

Well then, let's be literal...
What does the Greek word "aeonian" mean? (please don't use the Bible as an example)

Did you read anything I've written?

Jesus Fucking Christ.

Either the Bible is to be taken literally or it is unreliable. If it is unreliable because it's not to be taken literally, or it's mistranslated, or rewritten in part, then I reject the supposedly "all loving" and "all powerful" God the Bible talks to us about. What if the Bible doesn't literally mean that there is a God? eh?

If that is your point then the Bible isn't truth and can't teach me anything. So it's useless.

Also, you don't have to be a fundy (reject evolution among other things) because you take the Bible literally.

I both took the Bible literally and believed in the Theory of Evolution for years and years.

Now THAT fucked with my head. I had all kinds of weird, convoluted concepts about how to reconcile the two beliefs.

I don't like talking to you or fr0d0. You guys annoy me. I like GC. At least he will have an open, honest conversation with you instead of dancing around in lame attempts to score a random point like we have some scoreboard monitoring our debate.

So you're a literalist atheist fundy, now I know... Undecided
