The war on Christmas
#61
RE: The war on Christmas
Peace on Earth, good will towards men (yes, this includes women). Tough to argue with. I'm fond of the season and many of its traditions. I sincerely wish people a Merry Christmas while simultaneously thinking that baby Jesus should go fuck himself!

RE: The war on Christmas
Actually, 'Merry Christmas' doesn't bother me so much. Most people forget the 'true meaning of Christmas' before the middle of December anyway.

What really gets my goat is when people say things like "you have a blessed day" or "god bless you dearie" or anything like that. It usually annoys me because I'm most often at work at the time so the only 'polite' and 'bow down because the customer is always right' response I can give is "Thank you" or "You too". I can't say, "well thanks but I don't want your blessing" or any of the things I'd like to say.... (insert any story from christianity and then proceed to tell the customer where that story REALLY came from [a slightly earlier religion that all the peasants were clinging onto]).

So no, merry christmas doesn't bother me any more than happy hanukah or kwanzaa.

Although I will say I've never been wished a 'happy' the latter two.

Yeah I get aggravated with that as well Owlix, but I usually try and brush it off as they meant have a nice day.

Frankly I'd like to tell them where to shove their god bless yous and blessed days but I usually let it slide.

So much fail for one short paragraph.

It appears Chad got tired of the fundies hogging all the stupid.

I guarantee you, any christian who celebrates christmas is more so, given just how much of the holiday is borrowed from other religions or traditions.

You know, sometimes I think to myself, "that Chad, he's more intelligent than a lot of the christians on the forums, at least he's got that going for him."

And other times, you go and ruin it by saying the stupidest fucking shit, like this, or your "atheists is nihilists" idiocy.

No they're not. What an odd thing to say.

RE: The war on Christmas
The real war on Christmas should rage here, in my country, where it is celebrated under the guise of New Years eve. We have "new years eve trees", and the obese old man Santa Claus with the red clothes, instead of the real Saint Nicholas that actually lived in Turkey, whom we don't even venerate.
It's absolutely disgusting.

You do realise that santa claus is saint nicholas, right? It's the same name in a different language

RE: The war on Christmas
Considering ‘Christmas’ originated as a Pagan ‘holiday’ celebrating the seasonal change, etc…even atheists and agnostics can ‘celebrate’ this merry day of eating, drinking, gift giving and utter mayhem! (I added in ‘utter mayhem.’ Do that at your own risk.) Big Grin

Can you elaborate on this? I wasn't aware that Evangelicals don't like Christmas.

Also, other than yapping on 24-hour news crap, where ARE the atheists who get offended by "Merry Christmas"? They're obviously not here, and since everybody has expressed how lame it is to get your panties in a bunch about it, I can only conclude that because of a few idiotic talking heads on TV, Christians think atheists hate Christmas and are offended by it. It appears to be a misunderstanding.

But the merciless Xmas music everywhere you go is awful. Last year I thought if I had to hear "rum-pum-pum-pum" one more fucking time I was going to lose my mind.

***Edit- And what's a "red letter Christian"?
