I guess for balance I should start a thread on a Christian forum about how people would feel about being wished happy holidays.

I would be interested to hear how the Christians respond if you start such a thread.

Oh, yes! Please do! Most of us get banned from those sites for asking questions like that, but since you're a Christian, you might not!

RE: The war on Christmas
A) If there is a war on christmas, it is clearly winning since you can barely enjoy Halloween anymore without Christmas rearing its head (one person here local had their christmas tree up before Halloween with orange lights on it), and Thanksgiving is just "Christmas: Part I, the day before Black Friday." And never mind the BS of "Christmas in July" where networks play christmas specials over and over again.

B) Christmas has only to do with Christianity in its name (unlike Easter which has nothing to do with it since they didn't even change it from its pagan namesake, Eostre). The tree? Pagan. The wreath? Pagan. Exchanging gifts? Pagan. The predecessor to the bastardization of Saint Nicholas into Santa Claus who gave gifts to kids? Pagan. Mistletoe? Pagan. The date? Pagan. There isn't anything "Christian" about it anymore. (Not that I would have said that as a believer)

C) I love Christmas and this time of year leading up to it. People get a little happier, it gets colder, it snows. Then you get to give gifts, get gifts, and watch the Christians try and come up with an excuse for the points in B.

My guess: Most would have no issue with it. A small minority might go ballistic.

Yeah, they don't like me much there, tree hugging liberal communist, gay loving abortion apologist that I am. But I'm not banned yet. I'll pop it and report back.

Why would Christians have a problem with 'Happy Holidays'?

After all, the word 'holiday' comes from the phrase 'Holy Days'.

"The word holiday comes from the Old English word hāligdæg (hālig "holy" + dæg "day"). The word originally referred only to special religious days."

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

How can any of you not know that? Is it not in this atheist agenda I keep reading about? (I presume a copy gets fed ex' D to you or something)

RE: The war on Christmas
What is it with you people and christmas music?
I actually willingly downloaded the entire Original Soundtrack of the Home Alone movie... can't get more chritsmassy than that! And it's in my playlist... every *~300 hours of listening* I get to listen to it again! And I don't mind one bit. It's cheerful and reminds me of the goofyness of that movie!
