My biggest suprise is that they apologized in the first place. I would have expected the to shoot everyone up and just move on like nothing happened.

I don't know if we really have any allies in the middle east. I'd think the best we could really hope for is a nation that doesn't completely hate our guts.

I am positive that somebody making fun of your stance posting here would write the exact same thing, but satirically.

Why do we keep getting ourselves involved in third world assymetrical conflicts? Didn't work out very well in 'Nam, and it has not worked out very well since. I always thought that when one kept doing the same thing over and over, but THIS time it's going to come out right, that was one form of insanity...

Why do we get into those conflicts? Simple. Oil. They have it and we're addicted.

I was speaking rhetorically. Iraq, oil 4 sure. Afghanistan was Bin Laden. But if we had any sense we'd cut this crap out. We never did get any oil out of Iraq so far as I know. All we do is look stupid and piss a lot of people off.

Before we invaded, Iraq had an oil embargo. They weren't allowed to sell their oil to anyone. Now they can. So, yeah, we did kinda get oil out of them.
As for Afghanistan, I don't really get why we're still there anymore, either. If I had to guess, I'd say the military industrial complex has a lot to say with that.

The oil facilities and pipelines kept getting trashed while we still had troops their so their productive capacity post-Saddam was negligible. Now that we're gone that may have improved. Your right about the pre-war embargo.
I imagine that you are most likely right about the military industrial complex keeping us in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan has geopolitical value, friend. They can't really have bases in any of the ex-soviet Central Asian republics, which have oil, natural gas, uranium and etc...So a reliable client state in the form of Afghanistan was to be created.

Point taken. But how reliable is Afghanistan likely to be as a client state? Is this not the same country known as the "graveyard of empires"?
