As Ehrman made clear in Misquoting Jesus, he is hardly the standard bearer. The fuck-ups in the so-called inerrant gospels have been known for hundreds of years. In truth, they were probably pretty obvious before that but you jesus-lovers killed anyone who mentioned them!

Ehrman's mission is to explain complex scholarly issues to laymen. When it comes to most fundie assholes this is a bit like explaining radar to a dog.

First off, i stand by my point: they all share the message of love and peace from Jesus, the exact writing is irrelevant.
Also, the people who killed anti-thiests are not "us", they were humans from 1000 years ago. Man is flawed and everyone has made mistakes, but today's christians cannot be held accountable for it. It is as ridiculous as blaming today's jews for killing Jesus !

First off christianity, and the vatican, have a large power. Just look at how hard the media is trying to attack the Pope, and how much every one of his visits anywhere is a giant event. He holds more power than most presidents, and what would be more fitting for the heir of Peter ? But the christians doing wrong things are an amazingly small group...few thousands maybe, out of 1 billion christians ? compare that to what the muslims are doing and you will see which religion has a goal of conquest and which one has a message of peace...

I will not repeat my point on the contradictions: its all matter of interpretation. But our holy books were put together from the writings of the prophets by holy men who wanted everyone to receive and understand the Lord's message. There is no intention to control.

Yep, talking as the atheist right now, and Min showing the exact same kind of prejudice and blind hatred that religion possesses will not help your points go through: as atheists, only through reason and evidence can we hope to win anything against religion.

The Pope isnt such a bad person: he didnt commit pedophilia himself (that we know of), he wasnt a nazi (all kids his age had to be in the Hitlerian Youth). He however did try to cover up the pedophilia scandals and i admit that is unforgivable. As Bill Maher said: if the Pope was the CEO of an international chain of daycare centers with thousand of members caught molesting children and trying to cover it up, he would have been in jail for life a loooooong time ago. But since religion is sacred and untouchable...there is nothing we can do.
