I'm at that age when most of the availabe women I meet are divorcees, so they've already been through the wringer at least once.

I don't think people need to "pretend" to be interested in sports and hobbies to gain the attention of someone they're interested in. I'm myself. If I have to pretend to get a guy's interest, I'm not interested in doing that. I'm in my 30's and I never did that even in my 20's.
I go back to just being yourself. One less thing to complicate your life. RE: How do you get a girlfriend?

Getting her to trust you and open up is like pulling teeth. RE: How do you get a girlfriend?

I've found that if you have to pretend, then you and that person either don't have enough in common OR you feel threatened by each other's separate hobbies.
I'm really not interested in a lot of the shit my boyfriend is, and neither is he in mine. We both like that the other has interests, though. And we have plenty of things we do share. I sympathize with them, but hope you don't include them in the group who 'pretends' to like things. NOT logic:
1. Claim to have logic 2. Throw a tantrum when asked to present it 3. Claim you've already presented it 4. Repeat step 1 *Rampant.A.I.'s quote
And let me be a myth buster.
Not every chick is looking for marriage. Yep. Shocking I know but men seem to like to think we're all clamoring for commitment. futilethewinds, you are right about trust. I have huge issues from a recent break up and I admit, the walls I've built up are pretty high. Maybe it just takes time. RE: How do you get a girlfriend?

I think putting that stereotype on us is an easy way to dismiss our insistence that they act like adults on occasion. Also, you can want commitment...and not marriage. We're not in any hurry to get married. Having no religion and wanting no kids is remarkably freeing of a $10k+ one day event to feed people cake.
