Oh, wait! It says so right in the Bible, guys! That makes it true.

As I said... it says so in the bible, so it must be true. That one does not fly. (April 30, 2010 at 9:46 am)True Christian Wrote: Interesting thing also: we cannot create bacteria. Not knowing something does not mean goddidit. It means we have yet to find the real answer. This is the 'god of the gaps' mentality. And yes... we humans can, indeed, create life... because we know what life is made of. (EDIT: Correction. We (humans) have not created life quite yet, but as Dar points out below, we are getting very, very close. To say that we 'cannot' is not as true as saying that we 'have yet to'.)
Having faith and having confidence are two different things. And you never addressed the other questions.
Anyway, I have a different question for you. You have already admitted that you cherry pick what to believe and what to dismiss as fairytale, but something you said a while back has come to mind once more. You talked about 'Purgatory'. 'Purgatory' was an invention of the Catholic church based on a very loose interpretation of scripture (I quoted it in the original post where I asked this question, which you never answered). The Catholic church has since reversed it's assertion that there is a 'Purgatory'. My question is why do you believe in it and isn't it blatant cherry picking to take what you like from other Christian sects and say that's what you believe? I am sorry if i do not answer all the questions, but i have limited time on these forums, unfortunately real life gets in the way ![]() Again, i am not cherry picking my beliefs. The Old Testament is a religion that worshiped another God then the "One true god". The only true encounter humanity had with the true God is Jesus, hence to me Christianity can only be based on the New Testament. Now, no one really knows what happens after death. I believe in the Purgatory, Heaven and Hell because according to the New Testament, it exists. In the story of Lazarus and the Good Man, Dives was in the spiritual realm talking to Abraham who was in Heaven. However he was neither in Heaven, nor in Hell, but in the Purgatory, since a gulf seperated him from Abraham (Heaven) and he was a good loving man (not in Hell).
So, like the Catholic church, you have interpreted something in the bible to represent 'Purgatory' (a word that is not in the bible), because that is what you want to believe in. Okay. I was just asking. That works for me, in that it seems right in line with everything else you believe.
I had a friend who maintains that she is a True Christian drop by and look at this thread and she got back to me to say that you are NOT a True Christian.
Now what?
