Well, judging by the number of religious leaders getting caught out in recent years in gay sex scandals I'd say there are many Americans kneeling before closeted queens (in church, at least).

You have to understand that Americans get their entire understanding of other cultures from the media, and right now the media loves the royal family due to the fact that Americans love the royal family. Because of that, every British person they bring on television loves the royal family, and they never see the counterpoint of the downsides of the monarchy and the people that advocate it.

It's best just to remember in any situation when you're trying to understand the American mindset that our viewpoints all exist inside of bubbles that have been shaped by the media and culture around us. Americans aren't big on actually exploring other cultures themselves, so their entire viewpoint comes from outside sources.

As an American I must admit...I don't give a shit about the royal family. I don't care if they got a new royal dog or a new royal baby. I don't care if they get married. I don't care if they wear funny hats. I don't care if everyone loves them and talks about them. I don't care if they're in the news everyday. I just...I honestly don't care at all.
I would have liked to see the Scots vote for independence.
I enjoy English comedians.
I would tour England in search of Tim Minchin's house (I'm pretty sure he still lives in London)
I would love to see the palace and other pretty buildings.
The royal family...sure whatever. I don't care.

The one and only saving grace for me, regarding Charles, is that he's a Goons fan and knew them personally. Beyond that, they could vanish tomorrow and I wouldn't notice.

He also shares the same birthday as my sister, but he's never once sent her so much as a card.
