Have You Ever Cursed God?
May 6, 2015 at 11:24 am
Job's wife advised him to "curse god ad die."
Have you ever just said something to the effect of "Fuck you, god" just to show theists that you would not die?
If so, was your remark followed by the slightest crackle of lightning from on high?
Did the theists around you run for cover?
Did your luck change?
Do you think cursing god publicly is the sine qua non or touchstone of a true atheist?
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.
I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.

God never really enters into my thinking about anything during my daily life. I don't waste time 'cursing' him. The only time I really even consider the God concept at all is when I'm reading about or discussing theological ideas.
And no, I don't think cursing God publicly is the touchstone of a 'true atheist', whatever that is.

I don't curse imaginary beings unless their followers do something to deserve it, so I've cursed God maybe once or twice on this forum and that's about it.

I've done it a few times with people who believed my atheism was a scam, a form of rebellion and that I knew God existed in my heart. Always a horrified reaction from the theist but of course, no lightning or change of luck.
I don't know what you mean by, "Do you think cursing god publicly is the sine qua non or touchstone of a true atheist?" It certainly gets the point across that you are indeed an atheist.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Pretty much continuously during the Reagan administration . . .

I've done it on multiple occasions for effect, performing the unforgivable sin works against some theists who want to believe they have a chance of converting you. Most of the time it doesn't make a difference, the theists keep on trying because they either don't know what's in their book or just don't care, but it can scare the small, stupid fish away.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide mankind that cannot be achieved as well or better through secular means.

Yeah, I yell abuse at God now and again, generally when I'm alone. It's fun and a way of relieving frustration. Not the slightest thing ever happens. I'd be quite happy to do it in front of a bunch of theists if they wanted me to, just to show no one is listening.
I don't see a problem with it. It's sort of a metaphorical way of directing anger at the universe for being uncaring.

I cursed God all the time. Fuck God. See I did it again, and nothing changes.
