Have You Ever Cursed God?
#31
RE: Have You Ever Cursed God?
Who is God? What are some of his aliases? The characters in the Bible were always cursing other people's gods because they thought their's was the real one. Since no god of any kind has ever done anything godly what's the evidence that any of them are real?

Perhaps. And if the atheists are wrong and there really will be a judgment where we have to give an account of what we believed, at least you won't have to stand there trying to explain why  you believed a book you know is full of contradictions.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.

If you can't do it,  you haven't gotten over the religious indoctrination.  It takes time.  There are some people who can't demand that God strike them down with lightning. I can.  It doesn't bother me a bit.  Granted, I gave up religion 30+ years ago so I have zero reaction to the religious bullshit.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide mankind that cannot be achieved as well or better through secular means.

Do you feel the same? Can you bring yourself to commit the 'unforgivable sin'?

By the way I am so so sorry about that other 'fall' thread. I really did want to get involved, as I said I would, but it just looked way over my head. It wasn't anything against you at all - it was very nice of you to come and say hello in my intro thread and it was a pleasure to meet you  Smile

I think it would be a great idea for you to do it emjay. It sounds like it's the last thing Christianity has over your head. The Holy Spirit is nothing, it's a joke. It's most likely a previous mythology, they ended up with three "gods" from different places and then tried to pretend it's all the same God. I bet not even Christians can tell you what the hell it's supposed to be.

I think it's time you called it a ridiculous ball sack time wasting butt hole Smile Ain't nothing gonna happen. It's just another mind game Christians use. I even tried to see if a Christian would admit I'm beyond saving now I've done it, and they wouldn't even commit to that. Just another stupid rule that doesn't make sense. Why would one aspect be special? Fuck the stupid slithery Holy Spirit and all his imaginary friends.

If there's a real God, it's got nothing in common with the stupid characters in the story book torture manuals. Why would a god be so petty? How exactly can you hurt a god's feelings? Puh.

Fuck the Holy Spirit... there is no fucking Holy Spirit... there are no fucking spirits of any kind! There, it is done.

If we're wrong and there is a hell rob, I promise I'll try and come to your rescue - I'll have an eternity to find you, and all the people I care about, and try and push them up out of the fire, if only for a few seconds. The funny thing in life is suffering means nothing when you're trying to help those you love. Maybe that applies in hell too.

RE: Have You Ever Cursed God?
Myths are often eclectic, taking bits and pieces from various sources. One source of the holy spirit is from the Egyptian trinity, Ausar, Auset and Heru. The Greeks borrowed this and changed the names to Osiris, Isis and Horus, then the Christians came along. They liked the idea but got rid of the mother and replaced her with a make ghost. Is it any wonder that so many homosexuals are attracted to Christianity when it's godhead is the quintessential gay family: Two male parents and a male child? There's something about that that makes them feel at home despite all the persecution.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.

I searched for images of Holy Spirit on Google.

Apparently - it's a pigeon...

RE: Have You Ever Cursed God?
Done the whole "May god strike me down now" thing in front of christians a few times. As expected, nowt.
A couple of times when seeing some truly horrific scenes after a natural disaster or somesuch, I have clasped my hands together and unleashed a crude string of oaths and insults that would make the most hardened of sailors blush, juuust in case there really is a genocide-happy psychopath listening up above. You can never be too careful.

Good job emjay Smile That was very brave of you! I hope it will help you let go of that last bit of Christianity.

That's very kind of you, if I'm wrong then I take responsibility and I'll try and find you and save you too. But even if there is a place where God punishes people, he'd have to be a sick, twisted evil being to punish us just for insulting an aspect of him. If God is that messed up, we can't trust him anyway.

If an ant cursed my name, called me every horrific thing under the sun, I think I could handle it. Especially if I knew that the ant thought I wasn't even real. I wouldn't feel the need to punish it at all. I'd find it funny. What kind of petty egomaniacal God would get so wound up by what we say? The whole thing betrays god's entirely human nature, because he's a human construct. And he's a shitty human at that.
