Is America the greatest country
RE: Is America the greatest country
He is right. If guns were unsafe no one would use them, thus there wouldn't be any innocent people dying to begin with.

So the comment about hoping they shoot themselves by accident and die is legitimate then?

Most of those "accidents" are more properly called "negligence."  If you leave a loaded gun laying around and a kid picks it up and shoots himself or someone else that is not an "accident."  It is the predictable result of the gun owner being a fucking asshole.

But "accident" sounds so much better to the denizens of Gun Nut Nation.

You were right the first time.

I think your clue is in his assertion of firearms going off randomly just sitting there.

edit: I should correct myself. I hadn't seen that he wrote "should be unsafe".

Maybe he is wishing death upon gun owners after all. My apologies to you.

The reputation of both your nuance detector and your sarcasmometer have just become casualties.

"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Vastly more legitimate, and less mean spirited, than really choosing to believe there is a hell to which people go to burn, for an eternity.

You've misunderstood.  That the vast majority of "accidental discharges" are more accurately termed "negligent discharges" is an issue of fact.  Guns don't fail at the rate that americans who've shot themselves and others claim they do (they hardly fail at all)..when they call it an accidental discharge.  It'll keep you out of jail or civil court though...and that's why it's the go to bullshit response.

What I was asking Min is if he agreed with the comment wishing death on innocent people. Getting into an argument over semantics is just straying from the point.

Well, it's a good thing I don't place much stock in the opinions of strangers offered online, then.

... which would be true if it were ever possible for belief or disbelief to be a choice.
