Even if you choose not to believe in god, you’re actually believing in god

RE: Even if you choose not to believe in god, you’re actually believing in god
Reincarnation? Ha, I knew it!
It's always about eternal life....

Nobody would waste their time believing such nonsense if there wasn't something in it for them....
It's just the selfish ape gene fighting for immortality again...

OP, let me ask you? Why bother telling us any of this?
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.

Welcome from the UK. For your very first thread, I have to warn you, you've really picked a subject that you're not going to get a lot of distance with before you face ridicule. It's already started to happen. You say you're arguing 'on behalf of a friend' but increasingly your language is personalised. That has not scored you honesty points.

Consciousness is what the mind can grasp. If you like i can link you to a case where a neurosurgeon went into a coma for a week, lost the function of his prefrontal cortex and most of his brain and still had awareness he described vividly as ultra-real, more real this this reality
Nonsense. This is a bald-faced lie followed by an assertion from personal testimony. All reliable evidence regarding consciousness demonstrates that it's a by-product of brain activity. No active brain, no consciousness. I challenge you to find one single example of any of the attributes of consciousness being demonstrated by something without a brain.

Quote:Satan is biblical. You know i dont think any of you are in any way aware that there are religions outside Christianity. In no way do i believe what books about god say, they're irrelevant, period. Satan is a character from a book. Religion is not the only belief that's worth discussing just because when you think god in the west, you think Jesus. However whether you belief in god or not, you're still correct in being an athiest or jew or what ever because when you die, you wake up to it all anyway in another dimension. What proof of this is there?
You require proof here...

Quote:Book: Pim van Lommel - consciousness beyond life
book: wilder penfield mystery of the mind

...but clearly not here. The above are fully debunked nonsense speculations, the product of some seriously interesting imaginations but not of fact. Seriously, they don't even count as reasonable hypotheses. There's literally nothing to them other than the assertions of advocates.

Quote:Or, you could expand the definition to encompass a new deeper meaning Wink

Once you find that the material does not confine consciousness, but is only a mechanism for consciousness to flow and experience through, only then does it become obvious that the universe is an ocean of thought
No. You don't get to do that. Trying to redefine a word in that way is simply dishonest. I'll repeat: All reliable evidence regarding consciousness demonstrates that it's a by-product of brain activity.
Sum ergo sum

That makes no sense at all. You're saying there's always something everywhere... so therefor that something is God? Sounds like you're just calling the universe God or something.

You might like to start by defining what God means, as specifically as possible. Also, you could add why anyone should care if there is such a thing.

Thanks kindly for the warm welcoming, to be clear, now 26 years of age, ive been an atheist up until a year ago, the change was based on the science first, experience later. So at the very least, i would hope no one thinks of me as a religious person, or some god pusher.

Just to note - I only mean to defend this statement to provoke any fermentation of out of the box thinking that may eventuate from this ^^

So to begin, yes one can identify the universe and god as the same thing. Which they indeed are, the only difference is your personal attachment to one or the other in your beliefs of what you may think can only constitute what the universe truly is or isnt.

God means energy in all states of being, from material, to consciousness. All that connects etc etc

Without going into a need for a long breath of explanation, the only difference between an atheistic mindset of the universe and theistic mindset of god, is that the definition of universe a theist believes in, holds that consciousness permeates all, where as an atheist holds consciousness is subject to the material. This will most likely be the major point of discussion if there is to be one on this topic.

Just out of curiosity, how did you get all that new age bullshit from science?

Because frankly unless you're seriously perverting the science, you cannot get to that bullshit from it.

If it's impossible to disbelieve the gods, why are you trying to convince me they exist? Why would you be trying to convince me of something I already believe?

You know what? I don't really think you believe in god. God doesn't exist anywhere, so believing in him is the same as believing in nothing, so you don't believe in god.

If you can see the problem with the above statement, you should be able to see the problem with the statement you're asking us to consider.

Since it's impossible to disbelieve,

I disbelieve whatever woo you're peddling, therefore your whole argument collapses like a badly stacke house of cards.

And of course when you say "God" you mean Lord Tiamat. Not Jehovah, right? 'Cause that Jehovah guy is just silly. But Tiamat, he's the real deal.

Marduk rules!  Marduk, slayer of Tiamat...

Marduk desires not the barren wasteland of your desiccated viscera...

Yearn not for earthly things.  Cast off this taint... and become taintless...

So i heard that recently and i would like to hear from atheists here what you all think of this statement.

Thanks Smile

Sounds like a fancy way of not listening to what an atheist says about their lack of belief.
