I live out in the sticks -- about 30 miles from Austin -- and don't fear intruders at all. And if I were to have one, I've got enough impedimenta to throw at him, or use as a hand weapon -- not that I consider that any sort of reasonable possibility.

But -- I live in cougar territory. I don't currently own a gun, but I'll be getting a Remington 870 to deal with a big cat or rabid coyote.

I used to live in an army post with about 15k. Then we moved from Germany to Texas and Cove was around 28k population. I work in a population of 11k but I live in Austin which has a metropolitan of a million. Sad We are hoping to move next year a little further north to a city just over 1000 people. So Austin is the size of a fucking country to me lol Just being in the city I feel like I'm going to get killed. There is a little bit of irrational fear lol

Oh I'm not judging you. Just trying to understand why some people seem more afraid. When I lived in the 140,000 population...that's a fairly small city so I've just never lived anywhere big enough to be afraid in my own home or to be afraid to walk the streets at night. Yea...I use common sense. There are places I won't go wondering around in the dark, but mostly I don't think I need to have any protection.

I'm just talking about protection in my house by the way. It is extremely illegal to carry offensive weapons out in public in the UK. It's an automatic five years, sometimes more prison sentence for carrying knives out in public and the same for guns. Guns are illegal in pretty much all circumstances here though, so the same applies for having guns in your house too. For the record, I don't have guns. Shame they aren't legal here but that's just how it is.

My area is decent enough, not much crime happens here etc but you never know. And that's why it's good to protect your house. You Americans are fortunate that you guys can carry knives and guns in public though.

For now >.> Our 2nd amendment of the constitution protects that right but with all the dang people scared of them I worry that in my lifetime we will lose that right or it will be severely hurt. Well I shouldn't say that since Texas did just take a step forward and give us open carry...

I've never felt the need to carry a weapn for self-defense. Then again, I'm not female. Sad fact of life, criminals profile too.

For one I can defend myself without a gun. I do actually have a gun in my home.

But where do these gun nuts get this idea of saving the day with their guns? It's been proven that they'd most likely be freezing up in such a situation.

No, not always freezing up. But simply not having stress shooting training which cause their bodies not to react properly. It is more likely that when you try to introduce a gun in a conflict you will get injured or killed yourself or hit the wrong person.

The Tea Party Vegas nuts who murdered the two ARMED cops at the food joint walked across the street to and armed citizen confronted them. Problem with what he did was he walked right past the women, didn't notice she was armed tried to confront the guy and she killed him.

The truth is your survival rate of surviving someone having a gun aimed at you are higher if you comply or run. If someone already has the drop on you, the odds of pulling your gun out and successfully firing back are slim, they already have a gun aimed at you.

And Pete Blair head of ALERRT, which is a cop training school, wrote the FBI report on response to public shootings being stopped by civilians. The odds of a civilian stopping a public shooting with a gun are only 3%.

And here at time stamp 4:52 Pete tells us the truth of the odds.

Hopefully not, but your country is slowly being taken over by the ultra-liberal type, so you never know.

It is horrible to feel like you need to walk next to a man just to feel safe. Before summer I would end up at the gym after dark and I wouldn't even know certain guys but I felt like I had seen them enough that I kinda felt like I could trust them. If one of them wasn't there I wouldn't be able to enjoy my workout and would either leave early or work with my headphones out and watching all the mirrors.

I've never fired a gun and I think I've held firearms a total of three times in my life.

I have no interest in them at all.
