Apparently I need to hope I don't ever get robbed according to gun nuts

Sometimes I wonder if I live in a different world from you guys. The worst home invasion I've had was when drunk Carl took a piss in my back yard.

Just curious how come it is illegal for you to harm an intruder?

Because the UK only allows "reasonable force". That, in most cases, only allows restraining the person or something until the police arrive. Of course, that's not always possible.

You guys are allowed to blow them away or stab them for just breaking into your house. We're not.  Sad

Note the "" on reasonable force. The police say you can defend yourself, but you're likely to get charged with assault if you do.

My gun touting paranoia isn't actually a home invasion thing. I feel quite safe with my doors locked and husky in my room. (The machete is just there for in case but I don't think I will ever need it) My real fear is outside the house. And I agree with you it was a different world before I moved to the city. In the town my mom lives in I leave my truck unlocked and don't ever carry my gun.

That isn't cool but I'm glad you are protecting yourself with the bat at least.

And my collection of knives.  Tongue

Never had my house broken into yet, but it's definitely reassuring having some form of protection.

I don't think I have to worry about being robbed. We have a locked gate, and two pitbull terriers that will eat you alive if they don't know you and one of us aren't there to introduce you. In any case someone is more likely to wait until you aren't home to rob you. In fact they're more likely to wait for you to go on vacation. You'd have to be a pretty stupid burglar to break into someone's house while they're actually at home.

I don't live in a big city so maybe that's why. Where I lived the population was a bit less than 140,000. And holy shit I just looked up the population of the place I move to last week...734

Yes another reason not to be afraid is because two of my kids are pitbulls. Freya (half bull mastiff) will be pretty protective I assume as well but she's only 18 weeks old right now.

I live just outside of the city. My area has a population of just over 22,000. Not saying I am one of those people that fear for their safety 24/7, but it is nice to have some protection in your house.

Oh I'm not judging you. Just trying to understand why some people seem more afraid. When I lived in the 140,000 population...that's a fairly small city so I've just never lived anywhere big enough to be afraid in my own home or to be afraid to walk the streets at night. Yea...I use common sense. There are places I won't go wondering around in the dark, but mostly I don't think I need to have any protection.
