Well, Facebook turns into Assbook pretty quickly. People let all appearance of civilisation slip and utter death threads, Xenophobia, Islamophobia and general hatred left, right and center. What really ticked him off, well as I said, we have to wait for the results of the investigation. But the climate for hatred is already there and has prepared a fertile soil for acts of violence, such as I never seen before in my lifetime.

The unconfirmed report is that he yelled "Britain First," which is both an anti-Brexit slogan and the name of a small very-right-wing political group. I don't think it's irresponsible to reproduce this here, inasmuch as reputable news agencies are noting both that there are reports of this and that it remains unconfirmed. For what it's worth, the political group has released a statement noting that it's not certain he did yell that, and completely disclaiming the attack and the fellow.
Britain first is racist and that MP was of their preferred racial group BUT a prominent member of Remain. This implies (If true he said that) that it's Vote Leave related, they certainly think that as Vote Leave have just suspended activity.
This must sound like gobbledegook to the colonials.

Only to those of them that are dumb or don't keep up with major international events.

I'm sorry, but I've never heard "Britain First", as a slogan against UK leaving EU. Where did you hear/see it used that way? It doesn't seem to make much sense in that context.
And of course Jo Pax was on the Remain side, from what I hear, so - unless the guy was just a random nut, really, really confused, incredibly sarcastic, or trying to implicate the right-wingers - it doesn't seem to fit either...

Our national news say that the MP tried to mediate between two men having a dispute when one of them drew a weapon and shot her. Can't imagine our news to be more informed than the BBC, but the national channel has close ties to the BBC.

I stated that too certainly, definitely; I was trying to give fellow non-UK people some context. That was what I took from a first reading of this on the Huffington Post (which, although I think has value, can be fringy-left at times and is prone to exaggeration):
Quote:Media reports citing witnesses said the attacker had shouted out “Britain First”, which is the name of a right-wing group that describes itself on its website as “a patriotic political party and street defense organization”.
Jayda Fransen, deputy leader of Britain First, said the attack was “absolutely disgusting” and suggested that Britain first was a common slogan being used in the EU referendum campaign by those who support Brexit.
OHHHHHH I SAID THAT WRONG. I MEANT PRO-BREXIT SLOGAN. MY BAD.

I tend to think of British eccentrics as mostly preoccupied with collecting leprechaun saliva in old Bovril jars and writing length missives regarding cheddar cheese on egg shells . . .
so sad this one had a firearm.

Nope...pretty straightforward. Sounds like a confederate shooting a plantation owner for being a union sympathizer.

I think you misread - it clearly says here, that it's a slogan used by supporters of Brexit (so anti-EU), not an anti-Brexit(pro-EU), as you put it earlier.

Yeah, see above. I knew which side it was for, I just typed it wrong.
