About the same as we have seen throughout recorded history.

No, as I said in my prior post in this thread. I would be nice to have the luxury of ignoring the sickos, but the problem for the past 8 years but especially since Trump took the mask of the GOP dog whistle talk, we are now dealing with sickos whom feel politically emboldened.

You wouldn't call a Muslim terrorist slamming a car into pedestrians stupid, you would call them rightfully terrorists. A defenseless protester died because someone sick fucks sold that sick fuck the idea his "whiteness" was an endangered species.

Calling white nationalists stupid is a mistake. You can be stupid, and motivated and dangerous at the same time.

One asshole who was part of that rally afterwards  was asked if he was sorry she died, he said no. That sick fuck is as bad as ISIS to me. Heather Heyer was UNARMED and protesting peacefully against the bullshit idea that there is a master race.  Trump would claim his rhetoric was not responsible. I say he was, because he was not a no name he was throwing red meat to the far right and using political office to do it. If you go to White Nationalist websites such as the KKK or Neo Nazis or even individuals whom support that, you will find 99% support Trump.

When you show up with weapons of war you are not simply advocating free speech, your intent is to show dominance no different than ISIS.

It's not as much a luxury to ignor them as it is a choice. I would actually argue a wiser choice.

Arguing them is never going to change their mind, so protesting is a total waist of time and effort. Actually creates the head shaking of many people looking at both sides. I'm married to a black woman. I tend to have black family members around the house. It's not uncommon for them to watch the news and see a screen full of white people fighting over racism and here "what the fuck is wrong with those people". And they aren't referring to the racist degenerates.

I'd actually much rather flipping on the news and hear "Welcome to channel 59 news. In news today; there was a KKK rally in Indianapolis today. No one gave a shit. In other news....".

The argument builds their platform. It doesn't hurt it at all. Why argue a message that no one even listens to?

Bullshit, ignoring them is what allowed 45 to win the nomination and scapegoat and vilify his way to his win. I'm sorry but this is not politics as usual. It literally IS because of Trump emboldening these sickos over the past 5 years. Indianapolis like Boston is blue, Charlottesville is red, big difference. None of what you just argued changes our past. I am tired of this bullshit that "that cant happen here", it did, in CHARLOTTEVILLE. And racism has deep roots in our nation unfortunately. Like I told CL, we had at one point a majority CONGRESS that were KKK members.

45 is pandering to the scum of America. When fascism infects politics along with racism, it is not something you can simply ignore. Germany did that to the tune of costing 6 million Jews lives and 50 million civilians and soldiers on all sided by the end of the war.

If you think 45 or the KKK or Nazis should not be taken seriously, then you have FAILED to head the lessons of history. Damned fucking right I take them seriously because they are now a real threat to national security and western pluralism. YES IT CAN HAPPEN HERE and it has in the past. That is not paranoia on my part, it is knowing that when humans left unchecked with a vile politician egging them on, bad things can and do happen.

You have megga preachers even threatening civil war if 45 gets impeached. This is no joke or game. Now is not the time to ignore them, now is the time to put our foot down.

Nazis are clever at getting the left to build their platform. It does not mean we don't oppose them, but it does mean we have to be more clever than them in how we go about it, or we just wind up helping them.
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Nah. It's been around for centuries and the numbers have dwindled down to tiny pockets here and there. 99.999% of society still sees (and will continue to see) them as just social retards. All of the protesting and fighting over it just makes the would-be social retards of the world see a place they could get attention if they join in.

Hate has been around forever, but the tamp down in America of the KKK and Neo Nazis didn't really start until the 70s and 80s. Your complacency is disturbing. Lots of Germans thought the same thing when Hitler started making noise before he became a politician.

Yes it would be nice to put them back in the category of "social retards", but no, those groups are feeling emboldened now because of the vile rhetoric of 45.

Never underestimate delusion en mass.

Forgot whom said it but, "Those whom accept an absurdity can go on to commit atrocities."  Don't assume it cant happen, only vigilance is prevention, not complacency.

For centuries none said a word about European antisemitism.

How'd your approach work out for the European Jews?

Just be glad you didn't grow up in the 30's. Or the 40's. Or the 50's. Or the 60's. Or the 70's. Or the 80's.

Not gonna lie, the 2030's are gonna be rough as shit but er... I'll let you lot find out for yourselves. I've kicked the habit of temporal dickery, too many spoilers...

What does Charlottsville have to do with religious freedom?

To answer the OP, it just means that racism is alive and well. I think there will always be racist people in the world, but perhaps better education, discussion, and awareness will help. Simply calling someone a racist and checking out will make it worse I think.

Who does that? Calls someone racist and then checks out? I think this is a strawman claim often used to avoid that very conversation.

Sure, maybe in FB comments you see it, but not on forums such as this, and certainly not in real life. If someone here calls someone out on being racist, it comes with a description of what was done, and often how to possibly avoid that in the future. There is discussion.

Only racist people go, hey dont call me racist, then THEY leave the discussion, all offended, because they aren't open to hearing about their mistakes. Which is a very normal human behavior. I'm just telling you, you have this backwards. It isnt the person pointing out the racism that leaves the disvussion, it's the racist who is offended and habing a hard time hearing someone call out their faults that tends to get huffy and leave the conversation. And if it's the accusers who leave, its after some discussion, not like...accuse then leave. They have points they are trying to make.

We should learn to approach people on the internet in a more gentle, unaggressive mannor, the way we would in real life. Not so harsh. Without the social cues of face to face conversation, it can be difficult.

Not accusing anyone in particular of doing it.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
