Catholics warring against the Pope?

Immutable word of God.  ROFLMO

Oh yeah, or they make up so much shit that people get pissed off enough to just break off and form a new more "pure" religion, ala Protestants.

Maybe. I have sort of been following this out of the corner of my eye. I will give my take on it, though I have not nailed it right down. Vatican politics is too big a challenge.

OK so Frank got elected as pope. Frank was a huge compromise for the conclave. After the last nazi, they had no option but to elect somebody, anybody who would appeal to the Yute. Straight out of the box, this was flawed, because...

A. The Yute don't give a flying one
B. The RCC has painted itself into a corner of irrelevancy.
C. Not only are the RCC parents ignoring the commands of the RCC, their kids are too. It's a fiesta of condoms and pills
D. The conclave actually wants to back out this wanton behaviour and even regrets electing good ole Frank.

An Eternal and Unchanging God invokes an evolving (albeit slowly) church to present His Word to the world to save sinners.

It's laughable anyone takes it seriously. The manifest and fatal flaws in the Catholic God Theory are obvious to all, except the Catholics, of course.

You know what I've always wondered.  Were they just looking to sweep that one under the rug, or was somebody in a silly hat holding out hope that future discovery would prove galileo wrong...and prove magic book right?  They "investigated" the case for what... a decade back in the 80's...lol?  Ridiculous.  Seems like they could have concluded that case in about ten seconds tops.  Makes you wonder whether they were searching for a technicality to say, in the 90's.....  "Yeah, fuck that guy anyway, maybe he didn't rape the girl but we're pretty sure he ran a stoplight".

Quote:The official teaching may not be questioned, but neither can it be obeyed. Something has to give, and when it does, the resulting explosion could fracture the church.

This is the problem with religion right here. Setting up a standard that's can't really be met causes everything to fall apart. If you're not allowed to grow as a society, and you can't follow all the teachings, either because it's against fundamental human nature, or because doing it would get you jailed or killed, then the structure tears itself down.

How can the church update, revise or change anything?

(and I'm well aware they do, all the time, btw)

Changing dogma, strictures, edicts, pronouncements, rules, invocations, commandments and rules IMMEDIATELY raises the question, WTF? We've been doing it WRONG ???

Jesus Fucking Christ !!!

It's just the pew warmers are coddled with various BS about deeper meanings, or better interpretations, and the church can maintain they have been correct all along.

I wonder how would catholics react if the Catholic Church separates? I know that most of them would freak out, but how exactly?

They've made it pretty much an art form.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Yes. I was raised RCC and happened upon such wonks from time to time. It is more endemic that one might at first expect. That said, I was also raised to critical thinking. So the very same wonks very quickly learned to avoid me.

My shame? I was a kid at the time and I didn't step up for my peers. I should have but didn't. It was a case of protect yourself and the devil take the hindmost.

People who have never been there always fail to comprehend how endemically nuts it was.

All I can do is be grateful that my long dead parents intellectually and practically equipped me to handle that nonsense. Others were sadly not so well equipped.

RE: Catholics warring against the Pope?
The extreme disconnect between what the Catholic church taught and practiced pre-1960s and what the Catholic church teaches and practices today has led some Catholics to conclude that the current pope and several of his predecessors were not true popes but heretics. As a result, the papal throne is currently vacant and has been since 1958 (or 1963 according to some). These people are called sedevacantists, a name taken from a Latin phrase meaning "the seat is vacant" and used to refer to the period of time between the death (or resignation) of one pope and the election of his successor.

The splinter group mentioned in the article is the Society of St Pius X, with whom I have been involved. I used to attend their chapel when I lived in Wellington. They practice and teach the Catholic faith the way it was (at least in some places) before Vatican II in the 1960s. They celebrate only the Traditional Latin Mass and their priests still wear cassocks. They are not sedevacantists, but are very critical of the current pope and hierarchy, sometimes using the term "Conciliar Church" to describe them. They will tell you not to go to the New Mass and are opposed to television.
