Homosexuality no longer a sin

When he got called out for being against homosexuality he responded that it's only wrong if you are a Buddhist trying to be a good buddhist. Uhhhh, well when you are also saying being a good Buddhist is the way to go, put that together.

Buddhists are naturally confusing.

It isn't one religion, but the idea of religion itself in our species history.

Religion really is nothing more than a comic book reflection of our real tribal social grouping.

From the article:

Quote:The claim by Pope Francis directly contradicts Catholic and Biblical teaching regarding homosexuality. The Catholic Church teaches that gay sex – and all sex outside of heterosexual marriage – is a sin.

Not from the article. But no doubt equally alarming for the College of Cardinals:

Quote:Pope Francis has become the first pope to publicly denounce a “culture of abuse and cover-up” in the Catholic church, saying he was ashamed that neither he nor church leaders in Chile truly ever listened to victims of the country’s sexual abuse scandal.

Pope Frankie's no mug, not for nothing did he choose for his official residence a small apartment with limited access.

It's one thing to denounce the culture of abuse and cover up, it's another thing to stop it. Bergoglio has personally ordered the whisking away a number of South American clerical child rapists from justice.

"If someone is gay and he searches for the lord and has good will, who am I to judge?"
-Pope Francis, 2013

I still laugh when I read that quote. I was surprised to hear a pope say that. The conservative old coots behind the scenes at the Vatican were probably surprised too, to say the least. I think Succubus is right - Francis is very likely watching his back to avoid getting stabbed or poisoned, for real.

Direct line to god? What good did that help the last pope who poisoned. I think that the "holy" in the empire is a bit misleading.

But then again, has anyone seen the photo of Francis leering at the bosom of that well-endowed woman, at the Vatican?

Oh Kit, yes the pope says this but secretly many more catholics still think that they can "fix" you. Some might like to use a stone.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

It's obvious the neither the Pope, the cardinals, the bishops, nor any other Catholic has ever read their favorite ethnocentric Middle Eastern Jewish religious fairy tale.  If they had maybe just one of them would have came across this little jewel =

1 Corinthians 5:11-13 (TPT) =  "11 But now I’m writing to you so that you would exclude from your fellowship anyone who calls himself a fellow believer and practices sexual immorality, or is consumed with greed, or is an idolater, or is verbally abusive or a drunkard or a swindler. Don’t mingle with them or even have a meal with someone like that. 12–13 What right do I have to pronounce judgment on unbelievers? That’s God’s responsibility. But those who are inside the church family are our responsibility to discern and judge. So it’s your duty to remove that wicked one from among you."

God doesn't make people with homosexual tendencies, that would be tempting a person to sin and god says He does not tempt people. The temptation comes from our lack of self control or Satan.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

It's all part of the "love the sinner, hate the sin" bullshit mantra.

As far as I can tell, the Pope has just told a gay person that it's fine "to be gay", i.e. "it's fine to feel sexual attraction to the same sex". I wonder what he thinks about actually following that attraction, because accepting gay people and accepting gay relationships are different things.

*my bold*

But for that matter I wonder what he thinks about the nature of hell and whatever that may be whether he thinks that is something appropriate to the sin of homosexuality.  Somehow I doubt it.  I suspect he thinks a lot of the more rigid forms of belief we routinely see here are bullshit.  But catholics seem to function through stories which they are happy to have believed literally by those not capable of more and symbolically by the everyone else.

All I can say to that is, "Uh huh."

And the core message, at least for lucky Catholics, seems to be one size fits all levels of cognitive functioning but understood in different ways based on capacity.
