Has he gotten to the point where he claims that we all secretly condone slavery, too, because we live in a modern capitalistic society whose goods are largely built upon the backs of the exploited instead of removing ourselves from such a society and fending for ourselves?

Because, yeah, that's a Drich special. And if he's rambling about slavery, then it's coming.

I read your whole story there. Some pretty awful stuff, really. I feel for you man.

One thing I would say is that the religious interpretation of matters is but one among many. For you, God became a positive force that you can rely on. And after having gone through all that, after seeing how cruel and merciless the world can be, you found a way out. You interpreted God as being the cause of your salvation from torment, and thus now you see God as a way to help others transcend "the world gone mad."

But you are just one example. There are other examples. For instance, a young woman who was rescued from the sex trafficking industry and put into a loving atmosphere where she was educated and allowed to flourish as a human being might not embrace religion as you have. She might find it meaningful to become an advocate and create an organization which seeks to aid young women and girls who are in predicaments similar to hers. For you to tell her "No, no... you're doing it wrong because you haven't accepted my laundry list of beliefs" would be a demonstration of profound ignorance, not to mention a blindness to the fact that others in the world have suffered difficulties just like you. I guess my point is: your story, while valuable, is certainly not unique. There are other, similar stories that others have told except God is not part of the resolution.

In regards to honesty, I agree that you are honest. But only inasmuch as you yourself believe what you are saying. To me, their is a deeper honesty to be had, one where one (not only) speaks the truth as they know it, but also, questions their own worldview and participates in outside scrutiny of it. I see you as more of a "tow the line" sort of Christian in that, you seek to defend Christianity from all criticism, honest or otherwise. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

He excuses just about anything you can think of, and he'll say almost anything to anyone. You’ve just dipped your toes in so far. If he’s already getting you wound up, my advice is put him on ignore now before something worse comes up. There's no reasoning with him on any of this.

I think he’s one of the most honest theists we have here in a certain way. He'll come out and say what he believes and how he thinks the world should be. His belief systems are way more consistent than most, because he doesn’t deny the horrific logical conclusions. He has no compass to tell him when to stop. This is what makes people like him so dangerous. At this stage in his life, I think secular law is the only thing holding him at bay. I don’t know what else anyone could possibly do, since all the things we would normally appeal to aren’t present.

He'll probably now reply to me and / or you and demonstrate this to everyone. Either by arguing why it isn't needed or isn't relevant, or claiming that something else is empathy.

or that you misdiagnosed empathy as a choice not to side or judge people 'good' or award them special dispensation because of a perceived victim status. I treat everyone with the same blot of sin stain Christ Himself treated people with.

As with the woman caught in adultery and thrown before Jesus and was asked to judge her either by the law of God or by roman rule Jesus (like I do) shows you your own sin and askes which of you is without sin just like he did with the pharisees when he wrote their sin on the ground.

Take slavery.

You demand me to declare slavery is always bad.

Problem it is not. in fact millions would starve and die without modern slavery feeding them. not only that modern city life would not be possible. without slavery both the very rich and the very poor would cease to exist.

I can not take your side because I am among that wealthiest 5% of the population of the world that would be gone if not for modern field hands/slaves. but then I point out so are you all.. but your self righteousness will not accept it simply because you renamed slaves migrant workers. or the plantation works hapens in central or south america and out of sight is out of mind.

For me it is far more evil to pretend there are no slaves and ignore the working conditions and the below living wage these people get paid, just so in my mind I can have peace. I would far rather own up to directly benefit from modern slavery than pretend I am something I am not. So I can not then make the same self righteous declaration that all slavery is bad because I see all that differs from modern slavery and 1700's slavery is the color of the field hand's skin, and the terms we use to describe these men. The living conditions are the same, the dependance on the plantation is the same the product is even the same. what is different? what we call these men. it is like changing the word baby to fetus and now because it is not a baby it is ok to kill it! if you don't think so stab a pregnant woman in the baby sack and see if it is not murder if she refers to it as her child, yet if she calls it a fetus then she can pay someone to kill that very same life with no legal consequence.

So again.. I can not look at myself being the first generation in my mom's family born out of imperial japanese slavery (which was way worse than white on black slavery, as they were not bought but annex people who were a drain on the resources japan wanted for themselves so they had order to thin out the heard of anyone who could not work. I've got horror stories of family be mutilated if you like. ) Still can not call slavery itself bad or evil. As again I am a direct beneficiary of a slave society. So I reason it is the men who are in power who give slavery a evil slant or a good one.. but because I am not willing to turn my mind off and call all slavery bad without looking at the facts/truth I am without feeling, when in fact I am able to show what true tolerance is. I am who you pretend to be. and that is a picture of a forward thinking progressive man, which is so foreign to you, you misdiagnosis my reason and intent.

Truthfully we are all guilty of slavery to one degree or another, so check the bible and it does not out right condemn but rather sets rules to govern slavery by. It even call us to submit before God as a willing slave, which is why I would think a Satan run community would call slavery bad no matter what/not allow to discuss or think about it. because it kills any chance of you ever going before God.

Drich is so predictable.

No problem Smile

I would guess that it’s the fact that he really believes this stuff, and backs it with such conviction that can get under people's skin. He gets off on that, no doubt. But it’s him being real. People with no/little empathy may as well be a sub-species, with neither side being able to relate to the other. I try and take the scientific approach to such people, and that’s how I keep my emotions in check. I’ve dealt with similar people before.

The emotional outrage is better suited to people who do have a fully working moral compass, but choose to ignore it.
