Damned Catholics
RE: Damned Catholics
(November 30, 2018 at 1:47 pm)Cherub786 Wrote: The Catholic Church has a severe shortage of priests. There is like 1 Catholic priest for every 3.5 thousand Catholics. There has never been such a disparity in Catholic history.

The Church acts like its a government and has a massive bureaucracy. People are turned off by that kind of religion. The historic Jesus of Nazareth was a radical, apocalyptic preacher, living on the margins of society. The Sadducees of his day are comparable to the Catholic bishops. Now I know why many Catholics are leaving that church, they see a major discrepancy between the church and the original Jesus movement.

Or... people just don't believe what they're selling anymore. And there's that little issue of the massive child rape ring cover-up thing...
In every country and every age, the priest had been hostile to Liberty.

The "historic" godboy was not "historic."  At least there is no "history"  of him from the period in question.

There is a history even if it's not entirely reliable. Scholars go by the method of multiple attestation to derive things about his life which they are fairly certain is true, such as that he was born in Nazareth, he had some connection to the historical John the Baptist, he preached the end of days, he was crucified by the Romans.

And what, pray tell, is this "multiple attestation" of which you speak?

Simple, whatever the earliest sources on Jesus all agree on or tend to agree on, is probably true.

P.S. be prepared to defend your answer.

Within the first minute and a half he is treating a document which says

Quote:After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stood over the place where the Child was.

Matt. 2:9

as "historically reliable."  Give me a break.  You are not a primitive goat herder.  What do you think would happen if a "star" did that.  Or, is that where you start making excuses for your gospels in the customary manner of apologetics?

*DUH* it's peadophile only club.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
