FWIW I am 52, I've been married 25 years nearly (lived together for 5 years before that, so married when I was 27 ... that, for the nay-sayers, was my trial run BTW) and whilst it hasn't all been sunshine and roses I do believe it has been very much worth it and that being married makes for a better relationship in the end.

I would have thought that it's the relationship that makes the relationship good. You can have a great relationship without 'marriage' attached to it.

And you can have BAD marriages too.

It just depends whether marriage means something to you or not...

With me the answer is...why WOULD it mean something? And being open but being able to stay together anyway seems stronger to me, as I have said over and over again....

To each his own. If marriage means a lot to you and HAS meant a lot in your own persona experience, then that is of course your privilege.

I don't believe in it myself though for reasons previously stated and the huge double post or two I've made on the matter in response to fr0d0 lol.

RE: Marriage Poll
I think it's that people quite often end up wanting to 'settle down'.

And marriage is common for that. Although I myself would never get married for I think it's superficial sickly frosting on an awesome cake as I have said lol...Tongue

RE: Marriage Poll
That's my answer? I think that people who are older are more likely to get married because they 'end up wanting to 'settle down', etc as I said.

I think something like I said above is PERHAPS how the correlation is...but that's just an idea I don't actually KNOW - how could I?

Am I misunderstanding the question here or something like that?

I mean if you're just asking whether I would like to see a statistical test done for that too...then of course! I'm not sure what it would imply either! It would certainly be easier to think about once I'd seen the results though I reckon Big Grin

In essence I was asking people to say the views and their age.

RE: Marriage Poll
Oh...here on this forum? I thought you meant that you'd be interested in a survey or something...

Well if you mean that then I'm 20 years 8 months old and I am not married, never have been married and never plan to get married.

Others? Tongue

I said I'd be interested to see it too. I don't know how you expected me to answer your question but hopefully I've done it now? lol.

RE: Marriage Poll
I don't plan on ever getting married, if I can form that kind of meaningful relationship it will be a miracle... and if I ever do, marriage to me is just a piece of paper, the relationship can still be valid without it. Besides that, I wouldn't participate it such an institution that doesn't include everyone (ie. LGBT community)

RE: Marriage Poll
Just as I also think, rockthatpiano. Agree with you there that marriage is just a piece of paper.

I also think that meaningful relationship is overrated. Yes,yes I'm young and all that. But I really don't see the purpose or meaning by sticking with the same partner over a long period of time. marriage is maybe the reason why people have so long relationship. It forces them to stay together. Otherwise would most not have.

RE: Marriage Poll
Well, a meaningful relationship doesn't have to be one that lasts forever. At least I don't think so. I agree with you- marriage forces people to stay together longer then they should in most cases. I view a meaningful relationship as anyone that has a positive (or maybe even negative) impact on your life and teaches you about life in some way. You can know the person for a few weeks, but it can still be meaningful.
