I hate to think that way but, yeah.
Unfortunately, it's not just Trump. We saw the same thing with Hitler in WWII. The average human is very gullible.
This is why I so often talk about -isms like racism, not as social constructs but as natural expressions of the nature of the human animal.
We are primates. We follow the alpha male. We identify and alienate "other" in preference of "like." We are vicious.
If you went through a first-year textbook, and could talk an ethics board into letting you reproduce Milgram or Zimbardo experiments, you know what would happen? The same thing, exactly.
This is why the idea of -isms as a social construction is so extremely dangerous-- it does not accept the realities of the human animal's psychology. It doesn't MATTER what ideas Trump does or doesn't have. What matters is where the "us" and "them" lines get drawn, and who most confidently projects the example to follow.
Here's the dilemma of the left as I see it-- it is allergic, absolutely dead-set against, expressions of arrogance, especially in men. But it is precisely that level of total self-assuredness that will make Trump the president for another four years. That he's self-assured because he's a bat-shit crazy narcissist doesn't matter to the monkey brain.
