The Truth about Ethnicity

Claiming ethnicity is not about where your ancestors came from.

It is picking a period of time - and saying "my family starts here." It is also denying that the group you pick as ancestors (geoligically) were once immigrants to that area.

The Irish did not evolve in Ireland.

So if you identify as "white" you are denying your oldest ancestors - the humans that evolved in the Rift Valley in Africa.

And - as old time racists noted - one drop of black blood makes you black........

Conclusion - we're all black....


So what's all the commotion?

You have a point about ethnicity, but the commotion is about how we are treating each other. That's the problem, and until unequal treatment is solved, it's going to be hard to get past it, won't it?

It's easy to look at someone's skin and decide what they are like based on that observation.



It's a bit harder defining them by virtually everything else.

It's not, at all.  Hilariously, it's not even possible to tell if someone is white™ by looking at their skin.

It's a bit harder defining them by virtually everything else.

The only way to define people accurately is by things that exist, it's not actually hard - but if we're presenting ethnicity as more difficult to determine than race - you'd be wrong again, by any measure. It might not be possible to tell whether a mixed american is black or white, but it's pretty easy to tell a mixed american from a mixed uzbeki.

It doesn't stop pigeonholers from trying.
