Well, there's two kinds of rebel messaging.  One is over the top absurdism.  It's meant to be off and make you laugh.  It sticks with you.  The other is the breathless kind that means it.  Like maga merch.  Imma go out on a limb and assume that beard oil merchants aren't recruiting.

Yeah, no, it wasn't revolution in any nefarious sense... just revolution in the sense 'we've got an amazing new product that's gonna take the world by storm' sort of thing... but was still imo total overkill and offputting, though that sort of deliberate branding, is sometimes more successful... just rarely with people like me; for instance I don't care about labels etc (though I did much more when I was younger... now I'm just practical in my choice of clothes etc)

Advertising is not a moral proposition, though they would be fools not to (legitimately) advertise to our moral sensibilities. The beard oil isn't a great example of moral information - but the entire market for green products is. They're not selling cabbage, or soap, they're selling environmentalism.

Yeah, it was... and it still is in some areas... just much less in the realm of fashion for me... I didn't mean to imply I thought I was immune to it, I'm certainly not, it's just good when it sticks it's head a bit too far above the parapet, and becomes obvious. Another example is Pepsi. For as long as I can remember, it's been trying to associate itself with football in the UK, but I couldn't give a toss about football, but just love(d) Pepsi in it's own right, so this was a case of that overkill marketing washing over my head in a different way... in the sense of 'you had me at the great taste... you don't need to bother with all this other crap'

Don't tell me you're a Coke person?!? I may have to rethink who I have as role models here J/K. Explain to me how Diet Coke is utterly tasteless, marginally better than drinking water, yet with the same listed ingredients (I checked), Coke Zero tastes much better. The cynic in me thinks it's designed to taste awful in Diet Coke, to associate it with dieting, whereas Coke Zero is not really marketed as a dieting product, but just a sugarless one, so it's 'allowed' to still taste nice (just not as nice as Pepsi Max ).

Military recruitment ads have to be top of mind.  They cleanly fit the moralizing requirement, and are....at least in my experience, uniformly cringey.  Ads for trucks, often enough, too.  All the "real america/americans heeeere in the Heartland™" bullshit, the passive aggressive gags about still working for a living and still knowing how to get shit done.  

Something must have gone terribly awry in the capitalist moral command conspiracy machine if a uniform wearing ford owner sees their ads and thinks "wtf...?"

Be the best you can be sort of thing you mean? Other than that though again the only examples that are coming to mind are less so... like Gillette - the best a man can get... again not moralising so much as masculine-ising But I see where you're coming from.
