Which banned 'insults'?
When the Gloucestershire and Anglian regiments returned from Afghanistan a few years back there were a large contingent of Muslims protesting their return march through Gloucester and Essex calling for them and the UK to burn.
They were allowed to stay there, they were just laughed at and ignored for the barbaric goat fuckers they are.
Oh, also:
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/1/contents
The UK has already enacted dangerous legislation that gives religious extremists a loophole in protecting their poor little feelings when it comes to calling their prophets sadistic bastards. In fact, the RRHA is one of the worst pieces of legislation the New Labour government got through parliament. Nobodies belief has to be respected, especially when that belief is rediculous. I've highlighted it above with links if you can read.
It is not allowed to insult dead soldiers or dead police officers in Great Britain.

If true, that would be a law equally stupid as one that bans insulting dead prophets.

No, it is not.
You cannot insult a country's authority figures, or you undermine the legitimacy of the country's government.
It's the same "everywhere".
Of course, you can insult them in the privacy of your home, or when chatting with friends, but never to the face of those authority figures.... or you may faces charges.

I don't think we are talking about the same thing, really. Since when are dead people authority figures, and since when can you insult them to their face?
Incidentally, where I live, I can insult authority figures publicly. It's even somewhat of a cherished tradition. What I cannot do is threaten them.

It is not permitted to insult dead soldiers or deceased police officers. Both are crimes and so the people that have insulted them have indeed been punished. That's a fact. That's not up for debate.

I mouth off at police quite often... does that count? I only ever do it if they are hassling me for no good reason though, but because I walk a lot late at night they always stop me and try to search me. I never let them though.

What country do you live in? I'm interested because you said you don't "let" the police officers search you. That's not possible in Great Britain.

I live in Scotland. You can most definitely prevent a police officer from searching you when you aren't doing anything wrong. I've done it quite often. So, yes, you can do it in Britain.

It is in the United States, if neither probable cause nor a warrant is present. I've had police officers request to search the trunk (boot, to you UKians) of my car during a traffic stop. I always decline to allow them. If they had probable cause, they wouldn't be asking (*).
(*) Not strictly true, as they'll usually be polite about it and try to get consent (as it's a lot more difficult to get evidence thrown out when consent is given). If you decline, and the officer thinks he has probable cause, his requests will rapidly escalate to demands. The point is, they aren't asking for consent because they're being friendly - and it is generally not in your interest to consent to a search (or resist, other than to indicate that your consent has not been obtained).

So long as muslims will abide the political cartoonist who exercises his or her right speak freely by including charactertures of the prophet. I am willing to grant you as much but no more tolerance than you yourself will grant to others.
