I am serious though. Eastern orthodox churches are even more backwards than the west european churches and catholic church. This is not a generalisation of a people but an assesment I make about a certain church and it`s doctrins.

Indeed - the religion has finally recognized that is most important base - those that can SUPPORT the religion with money - is dying out and being replaced by people in third world countries who cannot afford to eat properly for themselves much less support the religion.

So - it has to do something to make itself relevant - but cannot find any real reason for that because the house of cards is already fallen - and it cannot get back up.

It was EDUCATION - something largely supported by religion - that signaled the end of religion among the Western Europeans and Americans who now no longer believe in Larger and Larger numbers to the point where religion is dying out.

When I was younger - and being raised to be a priest (WHich I never became) - the statement from the church was "Many are called but few are chosen" - and there were plenty of priests. TODAY apparently - with the incredible shortage of priests - and clergy of other religions in general - there are none being called to be chosen from!!!!

Catholics can roll with the punch when they're told even atheists are deserving of grace. They rolled with the punch when it came to evolution and the earth not being the center of everything.

But I wonder how well they'll cope when they finally reveal that heaven is not a literal place and all the 'eternity' any of us will ever know will have to fit within our finite lifespans? I wonder if any church as a whole will ever make its way from the literal to the allegorical truth of holy doctrines? Obviously American fundies won't.
