RE: what is our stance on global warming?

I have British friends that have been here long enough to start adapting (one's a GP), I was just giving an example. I'm not making it up, in a Vietnamese restaurant he complained that nothing on the menu had potato and salad with it. In an Australian restaurant he turned back a club sandwich because it had "the wrong type of bread" (apparently he only eats thinly sliced white bread). And there was some other meal he turned back too - that had nothing wrong with it, just "wasn't what he wanted" (he didn't like the vegetables, from memory - potato, sweet potato, pumpkin, broccoli and peas). He was in his 50's and it seems he's never tried anything besides British food and maybe british-chinese food. He was a complete douche in restaurants.
And since when is Canberra in America? My cousins and aunt were in America last month, this is what they had to say about American food verbatim: "food is generally terrible and to excess". When they got back they told me the south was much worse than the north (food wise), and that most southern American's they encountered couldn't understand them.

The south having worse food? I don't think that they actually tried any southern food. What'd they do, eat at Dennys?
Tex Mex, Floribbean, Cajun, Creole, Deep Pit Barbecues.....hell, comfort food/soul food. The south actually -has- a regional cuisine. The north is just the usual european fare rebranded. Maybe that's why they were more comfortable - it was generic?
The south also has alot of pronounced dialects, yes. It's likely that your fam couldn't understand alot of what the southerners said as well - or even more amusingly, only -thought- that they could. Same is true for said southerners listening to your fam.
-and about what is or is not fit for human concumption - it;s not just "what" it is, but "how" it was produced. There are a great many regulations concerning what a producer may or may not do to a food item, and whether or not said producer can them market an d sell that item to human beings. Our laws are so gigglesome in this regard, that -some- folks who want "unadultered" food, actually form buyers clubs around producers who market their product as pet food "not for human consumption" -officially-....but service and entirely human customer base who has no intention of feeding their unpastuerized milk (or air dryed, aged, blackened sausage)to a cat (and couldn't afford to anyway, shit's expensive - kitty gets the kibble).

That is correct.

Why would you expect plant die offs? Plants generally do well under conditions of high CO2, all other things being equal.

Long been known practically. The only place it makes sense to pump CO2 is in a production space with substantial climate control. A greenhouse, well built hoophouse, etc. Given increases in temperature (thus decreases in energy cost to maintain temperature control) - and increase in precipitation (availability and cost of water being a major cost - right behind labor - the major cost) - The productive yield of greenhouse structures shouldincrease dramatically (as season extension is dramatically increased in duration), the cost to producer should simultaneously decrease, the roi should improve. Controlled production spaces also offer solutions to many of the contributing factors of climate change.
I think it's moderately amusing that one way to make a production model viable is to fail to invest in it's ability to curtail a problem that will yield a scenario in which it -is- economically viable, even preferable. Also, that if the model reached viability and -was- invested in, it would have the effect of reducing the factors present which contribute to it's viability........lol

My Exhale bags and scrubbers work great. The starts seem to be much bigger and healthier by the first frost free date in comparison. By using tents and CO2, we are halfway to a first harvest by the time many people get their plants in the ground.
All of this talk of "undesirable" animal parts is making me hungry. Heart, liver, kidneys, tongue,....yum. Barbacoa and menudo...yes please. I didn't care for goose neck until i lived in China for a minute. Now it's "Qing xinla. Xie Xie."
I wholeheartedly agree about "excess" and American food. But I think the south has some of the best regional cuisines in the US. I don't think Aractus' family was ordering the good food at the right places. That is too bad.
As far as global warming is concerned, I sometimes wish both sides would get their head out of their asses. Instead of arguing about what is causing it and whether or not it is man made, can we please have a contingency plan for rising sea levels.
Sorry about all the jumbled thoughts but I got stepped on by a horse this morning and took half a Vicodin.

Too much refined sugar with everything, too many ingredients in the food (eg the American hot dog being: white bun, frankfurt, mustard, relish, cheese, onion, bacon - the Australian version being a sausage, onion and a slice of bread with tomato sauce or mustard). I'm not dissing the American hot dog, personally I like it but it's to excess when it's the standard.
And too much tinned fruit and vegetables. They said they ordered green beans at a restaurant and got tinned beans battered and deep fried! That's just about the most disgusting thing I've ever heard.

Milk is just about the only thing that is pasteurised - it'd be good if eggs were (or if they were at least available) then you could eat them raw without needing to worry about salmonella. The only law that doesn't make sense relates to cheese - in Australia cheese has to be produced using pasteurised milk, whereas the final product is pasteurised anyway so if you want the gourmet cheeses you really have to buy imported ones.

And buying imported ones render all the limitations about cheese making a bit pointless, don't they?
It's the same around here, in Europe with meat. The damn animals can't have a trace of drugs in their system or they're unfit for human consumption... but we import the "much better" argentinian beef which has no such requirements... -.-'
